This is the playlist btw in case anyone out there is interested. There are so many good songs to inspire and convict and help you think about America, protest, and hope. It’s massive and an evolving project. 😂 Just shuffle it and live in the tension.

It’s #GrimmieThursday and I know I took quite an extended hiatus from them for the holidays (tbh it’s just a lot sometimes that time of year). But it’s a new year and not midnight yet, so here’s Christina performing her original song Find Me. 💚

Truthfully I had to reach a point with four kids close in age where I basically said “fuck this” to our new cultural norms and let go of expectations re: how much time of their lives I structure and plan and supervise.

But I still get nervous letting them “roam” in any capacity without an adult.
An underrated factor in "why don't people in wealthy societies have more kids" is changing societal norms that now expect even older kids to be chaperoned by an adult any time they are in public, and to be chauffeured by a parent as their only means of transportation
Older generations spent a lot less time parenting. Millennial dads spend nearly as much time parenting as Boomer moms did. Millennial and Gen X moms way more.

THIS

It’s absolutely maddening they have no plan.

AND they lazily claim it will get better if they control Congress again but they won’t commit to a clear list of things to do if given back power.

It’s a lot of “just trust us bro” energy offered by some of the least trusted people in the country.
elected democrats who want their constituents to remain non-violent in their protests of these abuses must actually offer a path for ending the abuses non-violently. they currently are not as a party and it’s a major problem.
🚨WHOA. The El Paso Medical Examiner says it will rule the death of a 55-year-old Cuban man at ICE's "Camp East Montana" tent camp as a homicide.

He was allegedly choked to death by a guard during a "struggle" after he refused to enter a housing unit without his medications.

Florence’s music always works so well with films! Something else to look forward to on March 6th perhaps? 😉

The Republicans in this state are some of the craziest motherfuckers you will find anywhere in this country, who are elected by people with literal arsenals in their basements that enjoy making not so thinly veiled violent threats.

But sure, what really matters is that we come together as ONE team.
In this time of great division, now more than ever, we must come together as Coloradans, leading with kindness and respect to move our ONE team, our great state, forward.

Whole 🧵 but especially this
I’m really tired of people who believe “everyone is good inside” who have never once locked eyes and stood their ground with a pure sociopath who can’t bring themselves to believe in evil because its too scary

And who dismiss those who have survived encounters with it.

I’m so fascinated by this aspect of what’s developing because our country has so many traditions that inspire both intense regional/local pride as well as deeply ingrained and aspirational geographic restlessness.
I am very interested in the political identity formation happening here. This is not U.S. patriotism, it’s state-based. Deploying the L'etoile du Nord (The Star of the North) state motto is a fascinating rhetorical move and a deeply worrying, though perhaps necessary, political one.

I understand the takes about why he’s right to not mobilize the national guard against ICE yet, but this is really absurd as an alternative. We passed the point for peacemaking “why don’t we all calm down” rhetoric 6 years ago.

This is absolutely who *they* are, that is the whole problem.

It’s time to demand our leaders and politicians stop talking about non-violence, and start demonstrating more physical courage by DOING non-violence in the streets.
So far, all the courage has come from ordinary people, and almost none from our leaders and politicians.
Peaceful protest requires leaders willing to put their own bodies on the line.

Walz has that option. All of our leaders do.

This is an interesting list…part of my takeaway is that a few of these no inclusions seem to finally realize they are vulnerable to primary challenges.

It also means not enough of those who voted yes are scared enough yet of the base and that includes the entire Colorado D congressional delegation.
The House voted 341 to 79 to fund Trump's war-mongering foreign policy agenda.

Only 57 Democrats voted NO.

To keep track of it all, we thought we’d thread all the House reps that have committed to impeaching Kristi Noem. The first was @robinkelly.house.gov
I refuse to stay silent while Secretary Noem breaks the rule of law and terrorizes our communities. I am introducing Articles of Impeachment against her for violating the public trust, obstructing Congress, and self-dealing. Read my full statement: robinkelly.house.gov/media-center...

It finally dawned on me that when Paine said ““These are the times that try men’s souls” he meant “test”, not “oppress”. And, yes, these are the times when we’re getting to see what Americans are made of, who’s gold, and who’s, well, not.
I like how the general Bluesky vibe on Will Stancil went from "Yeesh that guy's kinda cringe" to "YE GODS HE'S OUT THERE DOING THE WORK, THAT'S OUR BOY OUT THERE" pretty much overnight.

this, driving a person to suicide because they had the temerity to want to work in public service, is what russ vought hoped to accomplish
“One day, a woman wrote to me on Signal, asking me not to respond. She lived alone, she messaged, and planned to die that weekend. Before she did, she wanted at least one person to understand: Trump had unraveled the government, and with it, her life.” @hannahnatanson.bsky.social essay:
