Now, before everybody panics and runs around like headless chickens, they have yet to introduce the bill, and Graham and Whitehouse have tried to pass this before and failed. The previous versions have never made it past the introduction stage.
Sen. WHITEHOUSE: We finally are moving to file a bipartisan Section 230 repeal bill. Waiting any longer serves no useful purpose.

Just saying if you're on Bluesky ranting at queer folk for not voting for Harris rather than writing letters to your congressman about KOSA, then you don't value queer expression at all

If you're doing both then you're very strange and should pick a lane

your representatives. Tell them no to KOSA, no to the SCREEN Act and no to changing Section 230. We cannot have these ID requirements and censorship laws. This is worse than the Patriot Act, it’s the most draconian anti-speech law since the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798.

Bad news is KOSA passed committee.

The good news is there was more opposition than expected.

Pressure works. Keep calling. Keep emailing.
KOSA is back along with 17 other dangerous censorship and surveillance laws that congress is trying to ram through.

CALL UR REPRESENTATIVE TODAY AND TELL THEM

—no KOSA
—do not repeal Section 230
—no online digital ID laws
—no age verification laws

CALL NOW!!!! We are about to lose the internet

Old people have zero ideas when it comes to how to regulate emerging technology for young people other than "turn it off"

Same shit as video games in the 80s and 90s
Same shit as TV before that
Same shit as film before that

That's always the solution: "kill it."

Seems not to be the final vote, more a checkpoint. But call anyways. You will receive a call that upon answering, routes you to representatives. Doesn't take long. The people on the other end of the line are patient, and worst case, you leave a message
TOMORROW: Congress is pushing through a package of bills which include an online ID check mandate that would fence off the internet & kill anonymity online.

Contact committee members that are considering these bills + make your opposition crystal clear using our call tool at

I used this system today to make a few calls — it was pretty smooth and all those who answered were very nice and chill about it.
Remember the Congressional hearing last week on 19 Bills to Censor the Internet?

Welp, they're back. Legislators say tomorrow they'll begin the mark-up proposal and try to push them out of committee.

A few post-notes:
- Don't panic. Don't doom. Breath and focus. Panic will do us little good in action. If you can't stop spiraling, step back and rest.
- They will try to push this before chistmas. They MIGHT pass a majority to the full committee. Don't dwell on it. Fight it.

ATTENTION! The House of Energy and Commerce has pushed a package of(now 18) "child safety" bills to a subcommittee markup.

This means the bills will be likely voted on to go to a FULL committee markup, which sends it out to the House.

Call the Committee. Tell them to vote NO

Everyone in Chicago needs to read this AND TAKE ACTION. Everyone else should read this and ask what's happening where you are with your public library systems.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed disastrous cuts to our city's libraries while setting aside $5M for a ShotSpotter replacement. As library associate Sara Heymann told me, “Libraries embody everything we need to fight back against fascism.” My piece on what’s at stake and how to fight back:

Reminder that not only do library systems have physical media (& many also lend tools, electronics etc), your library card may give you access to streamers Kanopy and Hoopla. We just watched Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of The Rainmaker via a hoopla the other night. Pretty good!
“As prices for streaming subscriptions continue to soar and finding movies to watch, new and old, is becoming harder as the number of streaming services continues to grow, people are turning to the unexpected last stronghold of physical media: the public library.”

Audio-visual librarians are quietly amassing large physical media collections amid the IP disputes threatening select availability.

If it is within your ability to any degree, please try to call at least Speaker Mike Johnson (remind him he opposed KOSA last year and you support him in doing that again), Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and your rep and senators.
