The fact that this small 🧵 is slightly relevant again bugs me a bit.
My hypothesis genuinely centers around a fear of a racial reckoning. They are desperate to cling to the whitest whiteness that is not Trump. Newsom gives them what they want (more than likely anti-Black, anti-Trans, and is willing to hurt homeless people for the benefit of themselves).

We really don't talk about how cannibalistic whiteness is. Ingrained in it is the drive to be the "true whites."
This is also why I worry about the language used by Christians here when they say, "Those people aren't real Christians." It avoids critical conversations that are needed.

Defending eugenics is awful and built out of the fact that children are still seen as property (pretty much like toys and accessories to show off) but also whiteness and white supremacy that comes with the US's white colonial mindset forged through all its institutions.

Watching some of the people in the post try their hardest to avoid the race importance in this is still wild. Ya'll, the US literally codified the non-humanity of those who were seen as Black into their founding documents. Again, the Casual Killing Acts were in place before that.
One of the major reasons we are here right now is that the white electorate does not reward politicians for making their lives better if that improvement also benefits non-white people.
