While not relegated to just MTV, this was part of my Master's thesis conversation. There was a lot of colorblindness and false racial progress presented in sitcoms from the 90s and definitely in the 2000s also.

The fact that we still see white people who are trying to find humanity in white people who dehumanize us in real time is a reminder that they are still putting up the money to keep racism around. Again, it is expensive, but they still foot the bill for it. Never forget that.

A friend of mine and I used to have conversations about when they do shit like that. They see us as akin to Pokémon, in some cases, and if they collect enough of us, they will be the least racist white person of all time.

Still hits weirdly hard over a decade and a half later.
