My Advanced Pop Transcription class at NYU is creating new instrumental backing for the acapella to "Harder Better Faster Stronger" by Daft Punk. To inspire them, I thought I would make a version or two myself. But once I got started, I couldn't stop. ethanhein.bandcamp.com/album/harder...

After multiple rereads of Anne of Green Gables with 9yo, we decided to take a chance on Anne of Avonlea and I don't know why we hesitated, it slaps as hard as the original

Usually I teach a particular demographic of Americans, namely NYU students and sometimes students from other NYC-area schools. They vary widely in their interests and identities, but there's a baseline progressive, anti-authoritarian outlook.

I have been buying refurbished only for many years now and the idea of putting an iPhone in a landfill is so repulsive to me that I'm amazed that anyone is open to the idea at all. There is enough stuff in the world. If the economy can't function without monstrous amounts of waste...
If a phone still works fine, it’s not “device hoarding” to keep using it. It’s common sense.

These clowns always think they're proposing something utterly groundbreaking, and then they proceed to post the most hackneyed derivative-ass "solutions" you could possibly imagine

This could have been in a letter to the editor from anytime in the past thirty years

New idea: musicians and other artists should talk more about where the money comes from, and *everyone else should talk less about it.*

Watching of Game of Thrones has mostly been about twiddling my thumbs waiting for Peter Dinklage to get back onto the screen. He seems like he's in a different show from everyone else, a much better one.

Same goes for musicians. I understand how it seems embarrassing to admit you have a job or rich parents or a gainfully employed spouse but the kids coming up need a sense of reality about how things work.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.
