Old man sings at cloud.

I deeply resent the current regime has me writing protest songs. It’s pretty good though, imo. You should watch the video and do the YouTube interactions (like/comment etc.). First song I’ve written on the baritone ukulele rather than the piano.

What Fr Dowling is doing here was not just "offering communion to detainees". A full on Eucharistic Procession is a really fucking big deal. In Catholic theological framing, those folks were the honor guard with the very great privilege of escorting Jesus himself to the detention center.

At this moment, anyone who tries to convince you that it’s a good time for any kind of violence is just wrong. There is nothing Steven Miller would like more than us being violent right now.
faineg.bsky.social
someone on the Internet who really wants to convince you to shine lasers at manned aircraft as a protest tactic “because they did it in Chile in 2019” is either:

1. a fascist fed, or,

2. so terminally stupid that they have become functionally indistinguishable from one

if a band member (it will usually be your boyfriend or someone who wants to be) invites you to a band practice, you say “no” in no uncertain terms, it will be the most boring 30 minutes to 2 hours of your life

NW: Slumber Party Massacre 2 (1987)
A rock band facing down an average 80s rockabilly.

The least believable thing is the guy wanting to go hang out for a weekend long band practice. Other people's band practices are probably the least fun you can have. It's the insidest possible baseball of rock.

I think ICE should be abolished. We should create a new agency focused on whatever kind of immigration enforcement we think is reasonable. But ICE needs to be razed to the ground.

For context: I was never on Team Abolish The Police. I thought that was silly, and way too broad.

It’s impossible to overstate how much “abolish ice” is the normie position now here in chicago — just countless random moms at toddler soccer on a park district field asking me where I bought my anti-ice t-shirt. average people don’t like our neighborhoods being terrorized.

A friend ran the Chicago marathon today and said he couldn’t count the number of FUCK ICE signs along the way.

First off, mad respect for the guy who plays saxophone AND theremin. Second off: punk rock isn’t dead?!?!?! Sweet.

Good advice. Thank you again
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
Wow, this was not remotely that close. You *must’ve* been terrified

Thanks for the reply. It’s a thing many atheists do believe, and it’s moronic, but in some ways it’s just a more intense version of “religion is a net negative for society” — which, if we’re talking across the course of global, human history is, let’s say, under-argued. So I wondered.
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
Lord, probably everyone in the house. There were a lot of gunshots. Thank you for the hugs.
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
In some ways I hope that’s it
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
Up to that reply I was doing my best. He was one of those “our only duty is to *vote* for Democrats; their only duty is to not be Republicans people.” I said I thought Dems should aim for more than a brief vacation from GOP rule right before he demanded to know did I not “understood the stakes”
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
Nice. I learned all those terms in AP Art History but long since forgot most of the specifics. They constitute a word cloud of “church parts” in my mind.
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
Not great. We appear to have had a domestic-violence shooting about a block from our house this morning. We heard more than a dozen gunshots and minutes later about ten police cars converged on the scene. Neighbor says it was the house of a woman whose daughter moved home fleeing a psycho boyfriend.

It’s like Trotsky said: “You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.”
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
I think so yeah. The one time I got semi-swarmed by Blue MAGA. (I’m to minor a deal to get really swarmed.)
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
Hi static. You’re not one of those “most of the world’s wars have been caused by religion” people are you?

It's still the case that elite bedweting about leftist mass action has made our lives worse, and I think you're right that the WTO/enviro protest movement was its most powerful expression. I do wonder if it could have turned out differently if Dems had embraced more leftist thinking.

These days it feels like every day is an education in how smug pricks see the world.

Very sad for the discourse that this smug prick blocked me for calling him a smug prick. We could have learned so much from each other. He could have taught me how smug pricks see the world. I could have shown him how not to be such a smug prick
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
Okay, now you’ve crossed the line. Yes I understand the stakes you smug prick. And I clearly understand how politics works better than you too. For example, I know it’s not the 1990s any more. I was a grownup then.
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
Supplemental thought about the post-Cold War zeitgeist. It’s impossible to overstate how much the “Battle in Seattle” terrified elites not just on the Right but in the Center. The other specter haunting America was “eco-terrorism” — the word for some vandalism that occasionally became reckless.
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
In the late 1990s Americans worried things were too good, and the bland comfort of the post-Cold War era threatened to leach our lives of meaning. (See also: American Pie; The Truman Show.)

That’s the kind of shit we worried about back then.

(OR SAY: We figured it was a trick, but which trick?)

The Matrix, Existenz, and Dark City came out within 14 months of each other. Incredible run for gothic allegory of the cave movies. What was in the zeitgeist in 1998 that made this happen?
