<totters out onto porch>

<settles into rocker>

<thumps cane a few times>

Let's talk about what the process of submitting short fiction used to look like, shall we? And about what it looks like now.

We have been on the shortlist for the Ignytes every year since they started and I did not think we would ever actually win an Ignyte but we just won an Ignyte??? Huge if true!!!
MATT WE WON THE IGNYTE

😭🎉😭🎉😭
Aaaaahhhhhhh this is such an honour!! Thank you to everyone who voted for us! 😭🎉🎉🎉😭
As I've said (and it bears repeating) it's been one of the great privileges of my life to have worked so closely with you to keep the Castle flying, mate. Still pinching myself that we ended up here. I will hugely miss working with you too. Keep being glorious, passionate, and sweary, my friend. 🔥
Hi! So sorry for the delayed reply; I've not been here much. I didn't have a specific setting in mind for this story - just a fairly generic British town. But it's really interesting that you had that experience! Thanks for sharing.

People took all the wrong lessons from Tolkien (fantasy race determinism, long-prophesied return of the king, lore coming out your ears)

and none of the right ones (subversive heroes who succeed through failure, overwhelming grief at the passing of an enchanted world).
People complain a lot about the influence of #Tolkien on fantasy, but I do think it’s fascinating a series about PTSD is so influential, and that ineffable sadness of a world long gone is such an interesting starting place for the modern genre

I understand that ChatGPT is down and fortunately this is not a problem for me as I have spent considerable time developing a local language model that I am able to run autonomously, fueled by Coke Zero and snacks
Gonna go dial that optimism back up again. I'll stop in here occasionally, but I'm a firm believer that where attention goes, energy flows, and my attention and energy are very much needed elsewhere at the moment.
I am increasingly convinced social media really isn't doing any of us any good. There are other, and better, ways to engage with the world and make a difference, and they're all improved by limiting time on soul-sucking platforms designed to increase communal anxiety.
So you'll forgive me if I continue to be here as little as possible right now.
I am currently in a place of personal optimism I've not felt in a long time. I have also been avoiding social media and the news as much as possible. Half an hour scrolling on Bluesky for the first time in two months and I can feel that optimism starting to dial down.
One of your best rants, always and forever 🔥
Yeah... that's one of the reasons I kept my account going for so long. But I just don't want the association any more, especially given recent political events. And yes, I'm delighted to have reduced his numbers even a miniscule amount
That also sounds deeply unpleasant. Weather extremes can have such delightful effects, can't they? 😅
So glad it wasn't just me 😂
Wait until the insides of your nostrils freeze because you've dared to breathe outside

...I endured scabs inside my nose every winter of my childhood in New England. Fun times.
THIS TINY STORY IS INCREDIBLE
😨😱😨

An utterly perfect piece of flash fiction.
I finally deactivated my long since abandoned account over there, and it feels SO GOOD

existence pushes towards love community and freedom, because CREATION is what we were built to do and creation thrives with these things as fuel. IT GETS BETTER. LOVE IS REAL. however this change comes in up and down waves. its not a straight line and should not be expected to be
