Two major influences: the memoirs of people who lived under repressive regimes or in repressive societies (like cults, or the Nazis, or. Afghanistan under the Taliban), and "The Handmaid's Tale"...
Happy Friday!! We made it!

This question is for #writers:

What other work of fiction inspired something in your wip?

Cops led us into the street as the new “protest zone” and then beat us repeatedly.

Got hit in the face with a baton. Leaving to pick up my friends who were arrested.

Stay safe out there.

I'm a pantser also. Then why participate in a plotting game?
Because I was convinced my WIP didn't have any structures whatsoever, and the #WritingPrompts keep showing me that there are. Guess I'm a plottering pantser.🙃

This would require me to be a plotter, and I’m a complete pantser. A three act structure may emerge in revisions next year. Or maybe it won’t. It could be 5 acts. It might be 76 trombones and 4 ferrets in an overcoat.

Yes. At the very least, it gets me thinking about things
Some things I know; some I don’t

I have sooo many characters created over the years whose stories I'd love to tell one day! Daemrin and Lex were the oldest darlings that kept coming back, and fortunately I'm writing their story now. #pretendpanel

I have so many characters that are adrift because I got bored and moved on to a shiny new story. One that I'd really like to get back to is Jessa and Bran, soldiers in the Orphan Army. It was an ambitious story structure and... 🧵

I've killed a few, honest! But I picked 'epic #SciFi' so many could live.

You can get away with more darlings *if* you follow the rule that everything has to serve (at least) two purposes. E.g. a scene might do worldbuilding *and* char dev.

For them to come back from the dead, I'd have to be willing to kill them first 😉

But they are my darlings and if they make me happy, they will keep ending up on the page. Sorry!

Happy #PretendPanel!

I've mentioned this before, but I have a trilogy around a son of a warlord who was raised by peaceful adoptive parents who has to come to terms with the dark power the warlord passed to him, thanks to the father's connection to an ancient demon.
There's also an ancient angel +

I killed off the MMC in my gothic novelette “Party of the Second Part” (actually he killed himself, at the instigation of the primary antagonist). But I felt bad about it, so I brought him back in my novelette “Adelaide” (link below)

It’s the same as day 14, Ashe meeting Lion Girl for the first time. Ashe has only lived at West for a few months and vaguely heard rumors about her, but she’s been led to believe that Lion Girl is violent and cruel

So it’s quite a shock when she feels a kinship with the Chimera XD

16. The inciting incident for Death Reborn is Shade appearing to Rei for the first time (she only heard his voice when they made their bargain) to tell her a map has entered the city and if she joins the expedition to follow it, their bargain will be fulfilled. #PlotTober #writingcommunity #writesky

…2) Zansi is trying to contact resistance groups. The only problem is there aren’t any… she wants to find out why.

One morning, Paru finds a beaded star that someone left on her bed. She has no idea what it means or where it came from, but it intrigues her. She visits the library to do some research, and comes across a graffiti of the same star.

Endings of my stories are multilayered — main characters are changed by what happens to them & their own agency. My current WIP is no different. I’m solid on much of the ending, but internally debating on relationship resolution. Will they? Won’t they? 🤔

I think my midpoint has to be the twins meeting each other again after being separated for a long time. Clara got lost outside of Arx Lucis in the inciting incident, and has since been trying to get back into the city, while Mem works inside the city to get the means to save her...🧵
