Day 1860 #Pedal2Work

Cool start of the day while riding into #Melbourne CBD via the Main Yarra Trail. Saw a few other people riding their bicycles along the trail too, and thankfully there weren't that many cars out and about the time I was riding so it felt very safe to ride.

Weather today was perfect for a ride, not too hot, but pleasant, low wind, no rain.

When The Washington Post introduced its slogan “Democracy dies in darkness”, it was warning about the dangers of an unaccountable government and a weakened fourth estate. But what happens when the darkness isn’t censorship or a vanishing press, but apathy?

Ah, I’ve only had ducted AC, guess it’s different. Just had people come and service it every few years.

Are you envious of the 30 km/h zone in Fitzroy and Collingwood? Would you like to see something similar in Richmond? If so, there's something you can do!

Unfortunately, yes.

We have too many councils , being asked to do too much with a single real source of funding and political incentives to keep that and any service fees they charge as low as possible

The whole system needs overhauling but no govt wants any part of that mess #nzpol

78 local authorities is really stupid in a country of 5m people. Especially when a single local authority represents 1.7m of those people #nzpol

This is great. Also, let’s do away with private election companies. They continue to do a garbage job and excluding Māori candidates from the booklet this year was unforgivable.

Winners, losers, big losers and gigantic losers from the 2025 local elections
Winner: the endless cycle of underinvestment in core infrastructure. Big loser: the pipes.

If we want to really start to address our country's housing challenges, we need to start fixing our country's transit challenges. Time and again, the main pushback on new housing developments is not the housing itself but concerns about traffic, congestion, and parking.

The kid was questioning my wisdom potting up 8 tomato plants today, fearing we’d have too many.

I fail to see a problem with that.

Turnout figures this low (32.65%) raise serious questions about the democratic legitimacy of NZ local government.

It would be easy to say those who didn't vote have no right to complain, but it is clear there are significant problems that leave people feeling the process is futile.

I know antifa isn't a real organization because I don't get 40 texts a week from them asking for donations.
