New from my phd student @joshgoddard98.bsky.social: he shows, using many election and panel studies across the advanced democracies, that housing status has replaced occupational class as a key predictor of voting. Class voting is now about assets, not income www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Housing and electoral behaviour: The changing face of class voting in advanced democracies
Scholarship on the relationship between social structure and electoral behaviour has traditionally operationalised voters’ economic or class situation…

“trickle down economics” used to just be like “cutting taxes for the wealthy will boost economic growth via their investment better than the taxes would” and now people use it to refer to “allowing more housing to be built” because someone, somewhere, will make money off it

Melbourne Metro Tunnel opens this coming Sunday (30/11). So today I have updated the Melbourne Train & Tram Map on the Australian Rail Maps website:

-> railmaps.com.au/melbourne.htm

Sunbury and Pak/Cran lines run via MetroTunnel and also still via the City Loop until February.

This is very interesting (and yeah, I also had an initial “oh come on, that’s nuts” reaction to the first part of this article, but as I read on, I realized he was making some pretty compelling points)
This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.

As was predicted when their right wing managed to replace Morrison with someone that was somehow even further to the right.

Unlikely that they'll learn anything from it.

If your argument involves referring to Americans as “USians” it doesn’t matter how cogent the rest of your point may be tbh

The thing I wish people like Carville et al would realize is that you cannot have ‘pure populist economic rage’ if you leave out the ‘woke’ bits. It doesn’t work like that.

It’s weird to me they don’t see this, so let’s see if we can walk it out.
