There we are again with the citizenship qualifier. Should the POTUS get to murder those without citizenship? Is it just citizens’ lives who matter? If so, then why are all these good people protesting? Why were those citizens murdered?
"In the past, Republicans have just waited us out because they thought we would break. This would be a very dangerous moment for us to do that because of the specific moral question being put to the nation: Does the president of the United States get to murder American citizens?"
This is a critical point from Sen Chris Murphy: If Dems fold on ICE now, it could be a disaster in the midterms.

"The result will be a lot of voters who tend to turn out in midterm elections just won’t."

Here's our full exchange. It's powerful stuff:

Seriously this is worth bookmarking.

Congress uses these tricks all the time. It's from the Simple Sabotage Field Manual, created by the CIA's predecessor.
Right out of the playbook.

PUSH FOR MORE
“An administration official gave away the game to Punchbowl News, admitting that these “de-escalatory measures” are about placating Senate Democrats so they don’t seize this moment to demand restrictions on ICE as part of any government funding package.”

Donald Trump Is Frightened
Trump wants to appear eager to minimize out-of-control clashes between government militias and protesters. But he doesn’t want to stop the things causing those clashes in the first place.

This is unconscionable. Evil.

But it happened in May 2023, when Biden was president.

So no, we don’t “reform immigration detention,” we destroy ICE, CBP, and DHS. We can’t reform this soul sickness.
Anadith Danay Reyes Álvarez died in government custody.

She had sickle cell and congenital heart disease but couldn’t access timely and adequate medical care.

We need to reform immigration detention.

Border Patrol has always been racist & violent. But something most people don't know is that the Border Patrol makes law. They make up ad hoc rules that are then eventually adopted as the OFFICIAL rules. @kangborderlaw.bsky.social

ICE reported at Food City on 22nd in Tucson right now. Asking to see people's ID. Escalating DHS activity here. Also, reports of Border Patrol involved in a shooting on Arivaca Road. Not much detail except victim flown to Banner.

Follow Jenn Budd for all the dirt on the Border Patrol. She can tell you all about their terrible history right here in our Arizona home: @jennbudd.bsky.social
County cops on the southern border work, train & take $ from DHS. Pima County has worked w/illegal Critical Incident Teams since 1990s. Pima County AZ has never judged a Border Patrol shooting to be a bad shoot. Never.

I think what a lot of folks miss is how profitable deportation is for the corporations involved & the politicians they're backing.

Holding people, physically removing them, is cost for the taxpayer & profit into the pockets of the worst people you can imagine.

Immigration is a net good. It improves the lives of the people who immigrate and the people in the areas the immigrate to. Supporting immigration is both morally and economically sound and a good government would encourage and facilitate it instead of making it as difficult as possible
The last few years have seen the largest wave of immigration in American history. All those images we carry in our heads about people arriving at Ellis Island — we just surpassed that. Crime went down. Real wages went up. This is a fake problem. Enough is enough.
