Porco Rosso deserves to stand taller in the Studio Ghibli canon, not least because it's among the great antifascist films. Here's my case regarding why:

Film’s greatest love story. Franco made over a hundred films with Lina Romay and the two were together until her death in 2012. Franco himself passed away just a little over a year later in 2013. #FrancoFriday

This one's a classic: a film all about Gila monsters and revved up teens with their hot rods. If there's a schlock Hall of Fame, The Giant Gila Monster deserves its own wing!

Have you seen this new addition to our YouTube channel? "Stranger from Venus" (1954) is a sci-fi curio that sees a nameless stranger sent from Venus to prepare the way for his superiors, who wish to give Earthlings a message about their future.

Thank you! WTF is that 😖
Sorry to judge here but it is disgusting to claim people born in 1995 are Gen X
Maybe generational divides are real

Seasonal favorites with The Man in the Santa Claus Suit (1979). A charmer about a costume shop Santa suit and what happens to the three people who rent it over the holidays. And another one for the "Christmas is magical in the city too" list. youtu.be/E6tUKplka4U?...

Talking, laughing, and pseudo-renting (it’s real in the heart) with Ryan and Dirk was a blast, but kind of living out my fanfiction of being in a video rental store with Heather Drain was a big early Xmas present.

Check it out if you like a great time and offbeat but sincere film recommendations!

Theaters don’t need to reinvent the experience here. It doesn’t need to be a concert. Enforce phone use, maintain your projectors, bring back honest theatrical windows and hire a staff who cares about it. That’s all. I don’t need a four course meal, props, special guests or gimmicks. Give us movies.

All of this money spent on this study and not a single mention of things that might keep people away: disruptive audience behavior, increasingly poor technical presentation, every shrinking theatrical windows (or day and date indies). I love theaters, and go multiple times a week, but it’s grim.

I've decobwebbed, dusted down and resurrected my piece on the 1979 adaptation of M.R. James' Casting the Runes, which I like a lot.

The nurse vomiting-if-she-tells-a-lie gimmick of KNIVES OUT felt like an escapee from this kind of 90s nonsense thriller. For all its other mystery clockworks and social comment, it might as well have had a plot point where anyone dressed in purple was invisible to one brain-injured witness.
