Note to self:
Those slides you created talking about degrees of freedom for mixed models are in your Longitudinal class from 2020, week 4. (What a great semester, despite everything.)
For the next time you need them and spend half an hour looking for them. Again.

People need to understand how deeply eugenicist this is.

They’re insinuating that if you “take care of yourself” you will be healthy and should get affordable healthcare.

Disabled people can’t “healthy living” their way out of being disabled.

It’s not a moral failing.

We need healthcare too
Markwayne Mullin on healthcare: "What the president would like to do is say, hey, if you take care of yourself -- you don't smoke, you don't dip, you're not drinking, you're not overweight, you're working out -- then you should pay less than the guy that obviously is not taking care of himself."

Reviewers invited: 12
Of those…
Declined: 5

If you think women here can't be forced backwards...

These are women in Parliament in Iran in the mid-1970's.

Their decline feels familiar.

A reaction to women having too many rights.
A fear of what was happening to traditional family.
A desire for younger wives.
A closing of the fist.

there is a woman on TikTok who has been arguing for months now with randos that keep insisting that nobody called 3.5" disks "floppy disks" or "floppies" at the time. it's weird. no matter what kind of proof she provides or how many agree with her, people are coming out of the woodwork to disagree

Our paper, that we worked hard to produce before the second wave, estimated that 21,000 excess deaths were caused by the 1 week delay in lockdown.

The paper was held up & eventually rejected by the Lancet. By the time it came out it could only offer a post mortem.

The President is calling for Democratic members of Congress to be hanged. This is deplorable, un-American, & an open invitation to political violence.

Servicemembers take their oath to the Constitution, not to any president. I stand with my colleagues who have honorably served this nation.

The President of the United States is using his platform to lift up people calling for political violence—the hanging of Democratic Members of Congress.

This is dangerous beyond measure. There has to be a line, and my Republican colleagues must wake up and speak out.

I wrote this piece because I only learned about pelvic floors a few years ago, despite having had one all my life. And then it turned out to be where I store all my issues. And then that turned out to be true for a lot of people www.wired.com/story/the-pe...
The Pelvic Floor Is a Problem
Everyone’s suddenly obsessed with the pelvic floor—physical therapists, MAHA influencers, me. Could this deeply misunderstood body part really be the seat of so much modern dysfunction?

Women have been highlighting equality and equity disparities in healthcare for some time.

Disturbing to see 3 stories in as many days about the continued decline and outright failure of our systems to care for Black women, particularly in maternal healthcare.

Instead, RFK Jr. published a litany of lies claiming that vaccines *do* cause autism, left the statement with an asterisk, and added this:

It's actually amazing how well trust in science has held up (scientists are still more trusted than every profession in the US except the military!) given the huge amount of money and effort that's been spent trying to delegitimize it.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

People have largely tried to act like ICE/CBP failed and retreated from LA and that is completely untrue. If it weren’t for the relentless coverage of places like @lataco.bsky.social these stories would be completely under the radar.
ICE has been raiding my neighborhood and surrounding ones for the last couple of weeks now. They commandeered my local church (against the pastor's will) for a staging site and raided supermarkets, parks, Goodwills, bus stops, you name it.

The national media's been silent. So has @mayor.lacity.gov.
Engagement on our updates re: ICE kidnappings/fed siege of Los Angeles is significantly lower on Bluesky compared to Twitter. Do ppl on here not care about LA anymore? Are feeds being taken over by liberal commentators? What's going on?

Community members on the ground can't do it all. We need help.

This moral radicalization happened at all levels in the Union army, very much including Ulysses S. Grant.

A lot of Northerners needed to SEE it to become true believers in the cause. But they did. It’s all there if you listen to the lyrics to The Battle Hymn of the Republic.

I removed a reference from my course syllabus from a person who had some very credible accusations that his university ignored completely because he was a superstar researcher. That means my students won't cite him because they don't know that reference. My small part in reducing citations for him.
Does the scientific community sanction sexual misconduct unrelated to research integrity? Our new study finds a citation penalty: a significant decline in citations to the prior work of accused scientists.
