i didn't fight in the Wikipedia MOS:DASH wars just to start using hyphens in place of em dashes
"but I use that and I'm not an LLM" - I don't care. Also you have to start using hyphens even when you mean to use an em dash
"it isn't just X—it's Y" is by far the most annoying ChatGPTism

Societies that condone genocide, that laugh about torture, that dance to songs about burning people’s homes and villages—these are sick societies that are rotting from the inside out. We have seen them before in history, and we see them still now.
Happy (Canadian)Thanksgiving 🎉

If y'all wanted to go into your evening smiling: some dude none of us have ever met has a wheelchair that works now. The broken one has been donated to the same shop I got the new one from, so they're gonna repair that and give it away.

At first the Discord hack didn’t seem that bad because it was initially the third party help desk.

But then you find out they had got there age verification data. Come to find out they got 1.5 TB of government id and age verification data. This is going to become a case against age verification.
It is good news, though I wish coal was basically gone. Even if global warming wasn't an issue we'd want to move away from coal due to other issues with it. It's far from an efficient energy source.
Glad to know I'm not the only one that thought that 🤣

Give folks their flowers

No, I mean right now. Go tell someone you loved their work right now. They're on social media just say it, it has never been easier

"They know how much people love--" no they don't go say it right now to a composer or artist or game dev or writer or anyone AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
AI is a huge blanket term that covers so much more than most people think of when they hear AI. So often I see it used as a single definitive thing when they actually mean one specific type of AI.
I can't take "let's use AI to do X" seriously, as there is no vision as to what you want to do.
AI is such a useless buzzword now. If you say you're using AI you just get more money. I know a ton of people who have to tell investors and the like that they're using AI to close deals, then just don't use it once they're actually working. It really is just suits that talk about it.

You know about Pavlov's bell.

Pavlov grabbed some dogs, rang a bell before feeding them, and eventually the dogs started to salivate when the bell rang, regardless of whether they were given food or not.

Now, let's say you studied the brain activity of those dogs. 🧵

If your conference is in the US, I'm not attending it
multi-site conferences. because it's not just foreigners who can't safely leave/re-enter, trans folks may be stuck without passports etc

I'm not going to "let it pass" or tip toe around what I said.

I still very much feel that shooting someone holding a microphone while taking public questions contributes to fascism regardless of whether the target was a fascist or not.

That shot didn't suppress Kirk's rhetoric. It accelerated it.

A “response” to their Supreme Court issuing a ruling after due process. It isn’t enough that have destroyed the integrity of our Supreme Court. Now they arrogate to themselves the power to demand that the high court in other nations subvert the rule of law as well.

This is insane.

There has been a rush among centrists like Gavin Newsom and Ezra Klein to brush over the hateful life of Charlie Kirk and valorize the man.

Let me be clear, killing Charlie Kirk was wrong and abhorrent.

We must condemn murder without sanitizing a man who built his empire on hate.

My latest piece.
We Must Not Posthumously Sanitize Charlie Kirk's Hateful Life
Influential anti-LGBTQ+ activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday. While condemning violence is something most can get behind, sanitization of his hate has gone too far.

That the museum was pushed into retracting the post because some people thought it meant that Gazans shouldn't be subject to horror is a horror.

Never Again means Never Again for anyone.

For the Jews.
For the Palestinians.
For the Sudanese.
For anyone.

Collective safety keeps us safe.
The Los Angeles Holocaust Museum made a social media post with a graphic reading: "'Never again' can't only mean never again for Jews."

After a backlash from some voices online, they retracted the post and apologized.
Haven't been streaming this week as I came down with a cold 😔
Hope to be able to do a little streaming this weekend and back in full next week.

But whether or not he was well-meaning, the fact is that P.H. Nargeolet’s presence lent legitimacy to OceanGate’s operation. His name drew people in, and kept them there. And some died with him.

When people told me I was a reason they were staying on Xitter, I knew it was time to go.

Don’t be P.H.

A Quebec fisherman who was fishing 15 kilometers north of the US border was essentially kidnapped by US Border Patrol, who capsized his boat and dragged him to an American prison cell.

In any normal time this'd be quite the international incident, y'know?
