Stoppard had a pretty definitive politics (staunch, classical conservatism), but his work explored alternating philosophies with curiosity and without prejudice. You got the sense that he wrote because he needed to know. And he was a born entertainer, a vaudevillian. A miracle of art.

It’s so rare for elected Republicans to speak out against Trump in any form, but when was the last time we saw one leverage an issue in an unrelated vote?
