Graduate seminar did a deep dive on Thomas Paine’s Common Sense yesterday. At the line, “in America the law is king,” they (14 students from 6 countries) burst out laughing. I've been doing this for 35 years and this is the first time that was a laugh line.

4.b It doesn't really matters if he actually believes what is tattooed on his chest, merely having to ask the question and not being able to be reasonably certain that the real answer is the correct one makes him a liability.

4)Since I am very supportive of the Palestinian cause, I don't have any tolerance of anyone displaying any overt antisemitic symbols. And, not much more for covert ones

1) I think there is a difference between shunning him forever and letting a few years get between when he had a nazi tattoo and now.

The gap is currently nil.

2) as a public figure, he has to face way more scrutiny than us.

At this point, I would prefer if assholes could just drop the pretense and say that they believe that having an unambiguous nazi symbol on your skin, a symbol so obvious that anyone with any interest in ww2 would identify it, isn't a big deal.
