oppressed classes throughout history from women to slaves to the colonized have been analogized to children as a paternalist rationale for their subjugation
the oppression of children runs so deep in our society that one of the primary ways that we disempower people is by assigning them child-adjacent status as adults. license to abuse flows from that

im thinking about the parental estrangement forums and shit and it feels like such a natural thing to come from a culture that doesn't see children as full human beings with agency, to extend the status of problem child past the age of majority and allow publishing and media to be complicit in abuse

One of my favourite Mario 64 modders experimented briefly with using ChatGPT to help with code optimization. I feel that a 'Hey man, knock that off, it sucks' is a more useful response than 'You are forever dead to me, traitor to humanity, I can never trust anything you do ever again!'.

[email protected] : Were you satisfied with the answers you’ve gotten so far in this classified briefing on Venezuela?

AOC: Oh, hell no. It was a joke. This was not a serious intelligence briefing. This was the communication of an opinion.

So weird that Firefox rose up as an open source alternative to Explorer, and now people are migrating to an open source alternative to Firefox (Waterfox)

Time is a flat circle, die a hero etc etc
Mozilla has a new CEO and he just announced that Firefox will evolve into a modern AI browser. This is a good example of how management doesn’t understand its own user base and why they go out of their way to install Firefox on Windows, Android, iOS and other devices blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/l...

Remember when a Latina single mother was about to unseat anti-abortion conservative Dem Cuellar? What did the party do? Thinkpieces about how abortion shouldn’t be an acid test for Dems. Pelosi personally campaigned for him and the DNC crushed her.

Yeah it sure paid off. “Blue no matter who” my ass

The Democrats aren’t your allies and they won’t save you when the chips are down. Primary them all is a moderate compromise.
Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->
By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).

I'm not saying to not fight against it. Just be aware that it WILL continue to seep into things until big legal challenges happen and maybe a major government or two puts down heavy restrictions. The bubble needs to pop in order to change those minds at the top, because that's how the economy works.

I've said it before, but the problem of rising AI use across all industries is unlikely to be solved by public shaming. It can HELP (and has made companies back down) but the entire CEO/money-man class is basically the same circlejerk that convinced themselves that NFTs were the next bit thing.
