ICE using the same ruse that Ted Bundy used to kidnap people should tell you something.
CCTV footage appears to show DHS agents posing as people having car trouble in order to lure a target out of his house before arresting them. The target comes out and starts helping them before 3 vehicles surround the scene. The car "experiencing" trouble then drives off with them.

Not only does this cost in terms of economics, but it also dilutes the effect of the phrase "national security" (even further than it currently is.)

I'm at a point in my life where if you need me in person overseas, you're paying for business class travel.

If you can't pay for business class travel, then you don't need me on site. It's just that simple.

I'll go a step further:
While we should absolutely jail members of the administration who committed human rights violations, they shouldn't be sent to torture camps either (even the ones who sent others to torture camps).
I don’t mean to sound extreme, but I don’t think we should have torture camps for people with criminal records either.

Interesting idea, but science isn't based the result of reasoning alone. Empirical findings are important.

@dingemansemark.bsky.social has an email template if people want to politely send a piece of invaluable feedback to the ACM!
The ACM Digital Library, where a LOT of computing-related research is published (I'd say at least 75% of my own publications), is now not only providing (without consent of the authors and without opt-in by readers) AI-generated summaries of papers, but they appear as the *default* over abstracts.

Looks like someone fell for the internet marketing hype about "lead magnets'. Definitely not the most effective way to get newsletter signups.
Bluesky, a lot of you are sharing this but not subscribing to the newsletter, let alone paying for it! Do your part to make sure this social media platform is a viable means to sustain independent journalism! I am Pat Spencer dropping bucket after bucket to let you know I’m that motherfucker!

"A very, very, very high strike threshold."

I suppose it's relative, since Trump's felony count was double that.
17 strikes and you’re out. 💀

Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️
