Just so you so know, I plan to use this space much as I did the other one i.e. when I post, I'm often just trying to put my own thoughts in order. If you find that interesting or useful, that's great; if not, that's also great. I'm not here to chase engagement.

Last year Sky News was rending its garments over Starmer's free eyeglasses: WHAT INFLUENCE DID LORD ALLI BUY?

Now, RefUK get £9m from a crypto bro, they have not one word about the donor's interests; just BRAVO NIGEL, barely concealed glee, and "what a huge boost... money goes where momentum is". 🤡

Countless things wrong with Labour's pandering to the right but one, as we can see, is that the right will hate them with a demented fury regardless of what they do so one would be wise not to invite the hatred of the left (very broadly defined) as well. I've never understood that strategy

#PMQs, Starmer's first answer should definitely have been "I look forward to the Honourable Member opposite's resignation".

“Put bluntly, net migration fell because 400,000 fewer foreigners arrived, and 200,000 more foreigners left the UK. This is precisely what Reform, the Mail, and the new, nastier Tory Party have claimed – again and again – they wanted to happen. And now that it has, they have ignored it entirely.”
The crazy right will never be satisfied about migration
Keir Starmer slashed net migration as the Mail and Farage demanded - and still got hammered for it

“Have Yourself A Merriam Little Christmas”

Merriam, a career-oriented lexicographer from the city, returns to her small town for the holidays and meets Webster, a ruggedly handsome librarian, who shows her the true DEFINITION of Christmas.

The thing about the "Red Wall" @mrjamesob.bsky.social, is that although those constituencies voted Leave in 2016; the Labour vote within them was generally pretty heavily Remain.

No one on the Right wants to highlight that but Labour seem to also be ignoring it for entirely different reasons.

Farage: I won’t do a deal with the Tories because they were dishonest and incompetent.

Also Farage: We’re recruiting as many Tory MPs as we can.

From today's FT lead story on Farage telling donors he'll cut a deal with the Cons we know the right won't take ANYTHING for granted to seize power at the next election. They did it in 2019 and they'll do it again in 2028/29.

So why won't we match a regressive alliance with a progressive one?

Imagine a world where the economic effects of a major set of policy announcements are viewed as of secondary importance to the resignation of an anonymous civil servant or an arcane debate about whether people said things a month ago as part of normal political messaging.

Oh, we live in that world.

Yup. This and #ProportionalRepresentation.

However, my sense is that you need one to achieve the other, in whichever order. Both shape the political playing field in different ways. Sort out the press and PR suddenly becomes possible; get PR and you're more likely to get effective press regulation.

They’re rewriting Labour’s identity by stripping away its own story & replacing it with a caricature of incompetence, punishing ambition, union placation, softness on crime, & scrounger indulgence

It's all about vibes & branding. The substance doesn't matter.

There are specific reasons Trumpists want war on Venezuela, but there‘s a generic one: they crave power to make war on anyone, any time, for completely fabricated reasons, and then to use the guise of war to increase violence and repression everywhere, including home.

They are lawless bestial scum.

Fair enough

And that’s what he used to buy his own house in 2016 - that’s what he considers to be his “pension”
