Someone told me that bluesky doesn’t have enough cute animal pics, and they are right. You can never have enough. This is what the Internet was made for.

One of my favorite parts of this episode is one of my favorite moments in all Star Trek, when Picard is like “Wesley I am so disappointed in you for disobeying orders” and Wes straight up tells Picard off and immediately resigns from Starfleet over what’s happening.

I am like 99.999% sure you are correct, this is just one of those things that ended up in a folder of funny internet things, but it would be great to have that confirmed.

(I'm 'fifty-two years an imbecile')
Work, Work, Work

On about this date in 1801, Britain's first census was begun. In a subsequent survey conducted in 1881, residents were asked to furnish their "rank, profession, or occupation." Some of the more puzzling responses, as preserved by the London Genealogical Society, included:

Colourist of artificial fish

Knight of the Thimble

Disinfector of railways

Examiner of underclothing

Invisible net maker

Electric bath attendant

Proprietor of midgets

Fifty-two years an imbecile

Knocker-up of workpeople

Maker of sand views

Gymnast to house painter

Turnip shepherd

Emasculator

Sampler of drugs

Fatuous pauper

Drowner

Count as female

Fish-bender

Goldfish-catcher

Cow-banger

Running about

Grape-dryer

Beef twister

Random waller

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Thanks to lagerwhat for added the alt text because I was in the middle of making lunch when I replied to this 😅

The best thing I've seen today. Now with alt text!
A four-panel black and white comic.

Top left panel, two stereotypes sit at a table holding a piece of paper: TIME TO FINALLY SIGN THIS BINDING AGREEMENT BETWEEN JEWS & ITALIANS

Top right panel, a view of the paper held:
AGREEMENT BETWEA ALL JEWISH AND ITALIAN PEOPLES
1. WE CAN PLAY EACH OTHER IN MOVIES/TV.

Bottom left panel, a hand signs the paper:
2. WE'RE WEIRD ABOUT OUR MOTHERS
3. J0INT CUSTODY OF MACHO MAN RANDY SAVAGE

Bottom right panel, a figure that looks like Randy Savage hugs the stereotypes:
OOH YEEAH

Jews and Italians are allowed to play each other on TV/movies, we signed a contract.

Christine used to be a columnist with the Inquirer. She was fired for accusing me of sending Antifa squads to chase her around the suburbs, then threatening to use her column space to write about me as revenge.

She also for some reason got drunk, found a beret, and took selfies dressed as my pfp

CBS News would never put a thinly sourced 'story' by a rookie blogger like this on it's air. Until now. The Free Press isn't a journalism outlet, it's bloggers aren't reporters. This piece is more NYPost than Tiffany Network but I guess that's the goal.

This morning I was filming ICE abducting sometime in Petworth. One of the agents told me "the last US citizen that did this he put in cuffs all the way to the courtroom".

Things are off to a great start. Spelling the name of a candidate correctly is woke. Fact checking is woke. Real journalistic integrity is parroting right wing talking points and whatever the police say as facts.

welcome to the new era of CBS News, where brave truth-telling takes precedence over spelling Zohran Mamdani’s name correctly

If you've never been to Gaza, you won't appreciate what the yellow line means. Basically Israel now holds most of Gaza's small but important agricultural land. Continued Israeli occupation, which I judge the likely outcome, makes Gaza even more unliveable and more dependent on outside goods.

According to the victim's attorney, the body camera captured the officer saying, “Do something, bitch,” before leaping out of the car and shooting her multiple times. Another officer asked, “Hey, what happened?” The first pointed to his camera, “Hey, don’t speak. You’re good”

Because they actively enjoy what they signed up for, and they will right up until their masks are ripped off and they are dragged in front of The Hague, at which point they’ll cry about how they were just following orders. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter why they joined ICE - they did.
66 Historians have a word for Germans who joined the Nazi party, not because they hated Jews, but out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed.
That word is "Nazi." Nobody cares about their motives anymore.
They joined what they joined. They lent their support and their moral approval.
And, in so doing, they bound themselves to everything that came after. Who cares any more what particular knot they used in the binding?
