We've established they are deeply stupid, I think is the general point.

as I said, "to the extent anything continues." In the event of actual real-deal large-scale nuclear conflict, getting shot in the back of the head by your personal guard who then rules over your basement for six months before starving to death is a Good Outcome.
davidhsiegel.bsky.social
this is the fundamental difference between a military made up of citizen soldiers and a mercenary corps.

History indicates that yes, to the extent anything continues, a majority of non-conscript, non-mercenary troops will remain loyal to the nominal state. Elites will jostle for their loyalty.

This is something I think a lot about what would happen in the Presidential Bunker is case of Nuclear War. Does the President assume the Marines and Secret Service will stay loyal to their oaths once the world is ash?

everyone, including marx, thought capitalism was better than feudalism! but doing lots of keto can really fuck up your brain

its predicated much on the fact that people who got rich under capitalism have no idea what it means to be an elite under feudalism

That's the part that gets me. "I am on purpose putting this dog somewhere he won't bother you", and these goons beeline to shoot the dog.

Just being monstrous because they can.

I have long believed that we should be WAY more vocal about how police and ICE constantly murder dogs, and I think this is great messaging actually.

The reality is that you can mobilize a whole lot of usually tuned-out Americans around a “someone is being mean to hecking doggos” cause.

But if you really care about this and are worried, you need to support action in places where chik is endemic. Just because NYC is threatened, some people will now take this seriously. But if we had a functioning CDC that participated in global response, NYC likely wouldn’t have seen cases.

We have to penalize blatant lying, particularly by public figures. We’ve slid
into a post-truth world and nothing but sheer cultural gruntwork is going to get us out.

NEW — I dug into the story of ICE abducting a 13-year-old boy in Massachusetts and moving him 500 miles across state lines without notifying his mother, local cop's complicity, and how the federal government's justification for such cruelty is already falling apart:
ICE took a 13-year-old they said had a gun. Local cops say he didn’t.
Now he's detained 500 miles away from his Massachusetts home.

"she looked like a child, which was insanely hot" is a really self-report.

To bring it to Zohran's district, I have never seen a tourist at Astoria Seafood that hadn't been dragged there by a local host, and that's reliably an hour wait for dinner (100% worth it).
davidhsiegel.bsky.social
An absolutely bonkers take. Both "knowing the place to go that's just as good but there's no wait" and "putting in the work for a hard table" are 100% NYC. Lines around the block for tourist dreck is worthy of an eye-roll, of course, but waiting for your number at dim sum? The line at Zabars?

It’s kind of incredible how badly every conservative in the city is filling their diaper with rage about Zohran over anything and everything. People struggling to get into a trendy restaurant? In New York? Must be communism!

1)You may remember the articles criticizing liberal students for their hesitancy to make friends with conservative students—alleging that they were less open-minded than their conservative counterparts.

Buy the adaptation rights to a series/setting I think is great but lacks "mass appeal" and fund a high-budget, probably animated, adaptation.

Make gestures at every stage towards commercial profitability but not care at all; pay overmarket upfront and backend to creator; etc.

lets say a wizard has cursed you with a lot of money. you are going to become permanently brain damaged simply by being in possession of so much money. the only way out of it is to spend a lot of money on something ridiculous and not at all useful

what would you buy to break the curse?

It truly appears that the desire to say this sort of stuff without being socially ostracized and so on has been a main driver of one side of our politics from the "anti-PC" 1990s all the way through the "anti-woke" / "anti-DEI" present.

A true political juggernaut, this desire certain people have.

The Republican staffer class are ALL NAZIS. It's not one or two bad applies - it's a huge contingent of literal Hitler-worshippers. If you spend any amount of time online - especially on X - you know it. This is something that has been dreadfully underreported & I"m glad it's getting covered.
