Had the privilege of a work trip to the Hudson Bay Coastal Lowlands this spring. Just amazing landscape up there. I'll post a few pictures here.
Peatland in a boreal forest. A think layer of snow covers the ground. The foreground is open water with taller trees in the background.

NEW: Premier Doug Ford insists there isn’t a major split in ‘Team Canada’ approach, as prairie provinces urge the federal government to drop electric vehicle tariffs, which are in place predominantly to shield Ontario jobs. #OnPoli

This would not have happened without an ebike. Without protected bike lanes or separated pathways, I'm almost certain the danger would not make it feasible in the longer term.

Some personal proof that ebikes and protected bike infrastructure are life changing. Spouse just hit 1k on her new bike in the 2 months since she got it. Went from almost never riding to daily commute of over 15km each way.

Canadians – If you have some time this long weekend, fill out this godawful government survey on AI, which itself seems to have been written by AI trained exclusively on buzzword-laden LinkedIn posts.

“Concerns over an AI bubble bursting have grown lately, with analysts recently finding that it’s 17 times the size of the dotcom-era bubble and four times bigger than the 2008 financial crisis.”

Hang onto your butts. This “correction” is gonna hurt.

Well, it's official. After our paper last year (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....), the Slender-billed Curlew is officially declared Extinct today.

This is what is so frustrating about bike safety blitzes. Drivers are violating laws every damned minute of every day.

And... the blitzes to deal with them are so rare they don't exist.

Another day, another #Ottawa driver sailing through a red light. All I can do is wave I guess.

Yeah I see a lot of that at this intersection, but this one was just weird. They entered well after it was red and that direction was clear so hadn't been waiting to get through. I think they just didn't want to wait another cycle.

Oh I hope this is successful. This was my route to school for many years and I had far too many extremely close calls with cars despite being on a side street most of the way.

Amazingly, our Vancouver visit has coincided with the construction of Canada’s very first Dutch-inspired fietsstraat (“bicycle street”).

Burnaby’s Frances-Union Bikeway is currently getting an all ages and abilities upgrade that treats cyclists as the main users of the corridor, and cars as guests.

Just discovered the {gm} package, which lets you programmatically create sheet music (and audio!) with #rstats (with MuseScore as the backend) flujoo.github.io/gm/index.html

Take 2 minutes to watch this. In the documentary "A King Like Me", about a Zulu Club in New Orleans, one of the members very emotionally expresses this same sentiment from a working-class perspective. You can feel his anger and exhaustion. I recommend it.
