Had the privilege of a work trip to the Hudson Bay Coastal Lowlands this spring. Just amazing landscape up there. I'll post a few pictures here.

(Nov. 27, 2025) – Marilyn Slett, President of the Coastal First Nations – Great Bear Initiative and elected Chief of the Heiltsuk Nation, issued the following statement in reaction to the announcement today of an MOU between the Alberta and federal governments, prioritizing a North Coast pipeline: “Today’s MOU does nothing to increase the chances of a pipeline project to the northwest coast ever becoming a reality. Coastal First Nations, along with the province of BC, will never allow our coast to be put at risk of a catastrophic oil spill. “We have made repeated calls to the federal government to uphold Bill C-48, the Oil Tanker Moratorium Act, as it is foundational to the vibrant and growing conservation economy we have built on the North Coast. Coastal First Nations, along with the province of BC, have made it clear through our joint declaration that the tanker ban is not up for negotiation. Oh no. It gets worse. Not only do folks trying to replace a Rad Power battery included in the CPSC safety warning need to buy a replacement since Rad refused a recall, the new batteries also require a new charger, sold separately for another $60.

As @rjjago.bsky.social points out in this excellent editorial, this is not a victimless crime. And King has profited greatly from ethnic fraud: he has made an entire career from speaking for (and not just writing about) Indigenous peoples.

This is probably the most important point though:
Look, for example, at Daniels v. Canada. It's a 2016 Supreme Court decision, and one of the most consequential cases in Aboriginal Law, which ruled that Métis and non-Status Indians are "Indians" as defined by the constitution. In paragraph 23 of that decision, they cite King's "The Inconvenient Indian," and his approving comments about being more expansive about the definition of "Indian." But when a Pretendian (unwitting or not) is influencing Supreme Court decisions about Indigenous Peoples, they must be called out and stopped. Because no matter how well you do it, how nice you are, if you're not actually Native, you lack the lived experience that's needed to make informed choices about what change this country needs to see.
