Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde
is there a word for when marginalized characters are relegated to the sidelines of a biased narrator's perspective, and you get the sense that they're living full and compelling lives but because the narrator's pov is so limited we have to struggle against the text to read them as fully-realized ppl

"This is not our sky. These are not our stars. But we will fight for them all the same. And for each other."

Heck of a book, @denizcamp.bsky.social, @alexpaknadel.bsky.social, and all the artists who worked on this one.

As someone who has had shingles before I was old enough to get the vaccine: GET THE SHINGLES VACCINE. Even if all it did was prevent shingles that would be more than enough. This is just running up the score tbh.

Arise, arise, Discounts of Ten Percent!
stocks shall be shaken, inventory shall be splintered,
a deals-day, a free shipping day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now, ride! Ride for ruin and the weekend's ending!
Death! Death! Death!
Forth Shoppers!
I've seen deals you people wouldn't believe. Delivery trucks on fire off the shoulder of Best Buy. I watched C-notes glitter in the dark near the Target Superstore. All those bargains will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to shop.
Cyber Monday is here and deals are going fast! These deals are diaphanous. They are receding even as we speak, becoming mere memories of deals, prices longed for but lost, hints at what could have been had for less. A golden slant of sun through window falls on an empty countertop. Act now.

If your time was considered valuable, they might have to admit that the source of value is labor. It is CRUCIALLY important that they obfuscate this, and insist that the source of value is, somehow, Capital (or "the market" or some shit).
It is amazing how disrespectful every level of capital management is to anyone who knows how to actually do anything. If you write or draw or fabricate anything, your time is just considered absolutely worthless

Yes, because all those men who created "stay late" cultures at every corporate office I've ever worked in did it because they LOVED being home with their families and didn't hate their wives and kids at all.

LOVE TOO see Cloudflare do its best impression of the economy this morning 📉
A Cloudflare outage is taking down parts of the internet - here's what we know so far
Cloudflare issue is affecting lots of websites

A good check is if the entire internet is resting on one of those two pillars. If so, prolly that one.
Is Cloudflare fucked again this morning or are my security settings too high, an eternal question

It’s alright, I’m sure nothing major relies on CloudFlare.

This one has been a real winner in our house. I make it with shells most of the time, but whatever small pasta you have will do fine. For a little more oomph, cook some ground chorizo in the pot after the onions are translucent. Prep to plated in half an hour.

I'm 4 generations removed from chattel slavery. After two generations of sharecropping, my grandparents insisted that their children go to college and get jobs in education, healthcare, or finance. Or join the military.

And the next generation was taught the same.
“Humans can just go get manual labor jobs if desk jobs are repaired with AI” is both not going to suffice to provide enough jobs and is also going to result in massive societal anger because manual labor jobs often *are terrible*, which is why people have worked hard to avoid them for generations.
Even if society provided the food/shelter level needs for everyone, humans also need to perform useful work just for basic fulfillment. The vast majority of people cannot sit around all day letting AI and robots do everything.

(The definition of “useful work” here is malleable but still essential)

In a country where we throw away, in the garbage, 40% of the food we produce.
Always remember that, under capitalism, food is not produced to feed people, it’s produced to exploit our need to eat in order to extract a profit.
USDA has notified supermarkets they can't offer discounts to help out SNAP recipients.

Why is anyone asking the man who is clearly not the future of anything this question?
Hakeem Jeffries says Zohran Mamdani is not the future of the Democratic Party.
November 2, 2025 at 9:24 PM
My representatives, and Governor, have decided they prefer the idea of their constituents going hungry to doing ANYTHING about it. It is as simple as that.
Who does the Democratic Party actually represent besides themselves and their own desire to cling to power?
