"And the devil said to him, ‘To you I will give their glory and all this authority; for it has been given over to me, and I give it to anyone I please. If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.’" - Luke 4:6-7

And a majority of America bent the knee to the devil.

Delayed thing about this: The pastor who was shot in the head with pepper balls is from the PC(USA), the largest Presbyterian denomination in the U.S.

You know who else used to be a member of that tradition?

Donald Trump.

But in 2020, he stopped IDing that way, saying he's now non-denominational.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

Holy shit. This is Angelo Elia, a legislative correspondent for Congressman Dave Taylor.

According to @rooster.info, during a Zoom meeting today, he had an American nazi flag displayed in the background.

I definitely think the years and life experience are a huge advantage; the teen drama (and melodrama) are certainly not helpful. But it's no longer *my own* drama/melodrama, so I have that going for me.

This thread might not go where you think it will. And it's delightful.

Out walking Chester and a group of school children - obviously a PE class -all ran by us.

One girl was half walking - half running behind everyone, clearly struggling.

Another girl looked back, saw them and slowed down, then walked alongside the slower child, saying “Let’s walk together”.

To find the assumed age of a white Republican you have to divide the cardiovascular age by the number of presidential elections they’ve voted in

Here are the grown “kids”. That one guy looks late 40’s. These are the Hitler lovers.
Vermont state senator Sam Douglass. Bland white guy with glasses and beard. Brown hair. Man in poorly fitting dark suit with glasses and dark hair. Yes he’s white. William Hendrix who is the communications assistant to vile Kris Kobach, Kansas AG. Bobby Walker, dark hair and dressed exactly like trump. Not a kid at all. He’s vice chair of New York State young republicans. I guess young means under 50. Peter Giunta looks like he’s in his 40’s. I don’t know his age. Also dressed like trump in an ill-fitting suit. He has one of the worst combovers I’ve ever seen. Beard and mustache. He’s the chair of the NY state young republicans. He looks like the type of guy that looks through your windows at night.

In #Switzerland, fine for a speeding driver is based (1) on how far over the limit the driver is going
(2) on how much the driver earns.

One man caught driving his Ferrari at 137 km/h the in an 80 km/h zone in a village near St. Gallen was fined 300,000 Swiss Francs (today, $375,000 US).

Any time I mention that I (a white Christian woman) homeschooled for several years I immediately add "but not for crazy reasons." I had to curate who I associated with very carefully, though. And now that TPUSA has free 'homeschooling resources' it's going to get even worse among white women.

My working theory is that the Christian Nationalist pipeline and the science-sceptic women pipeline have the same entry point: feelings of vulnerability and isolation. Not an excuse, absolves absolutely nothing, but understanding the cause is the first step to combatting the problem.

What D’Angelo said Black Messiah means. It came out at the end of 2014 and it was so needed.
Article (Nolan Feeney; TIME) excerpt reads: “Black Messiah is a hell of a name for an album. It can be misunderstood. Many will think it's about religion. Some will jump to the conclusion that I'm calling myself a Black Messiah. For me, the title is about all of us. It's about the world. It's about an idea we can all aspire to. We should all aspire to be a Black Messiah.

It's about people rising up in Ferguson and in Egypt and in Occupy Wall Street and in every place where a community has had enough and decides to make change happen, D'Angelo writes in a statement about the album It's not about praising one charismatic leader but celebrating thousands of them. Not every song on this album is politically charged (though many are), but calling this album Black Messiah creates a landscape there these songs can live to the fullest. Black Messiah is not one man. It's a feeling that, collectively, we are all that leader.”

“D’Angelo’s First Album in 14 Years Is Finally Here, and It’s Surprisingly Timely” via TIME.

When social media was still new and less reliant on algorithms to source feeds, this was happening. Social media's current functionality is exacerbating the issue multifold, exposing people—and particularly women—to increasingly extreme worldviews.
darlenemcleod.bsky.social
I'll even go a step farther that this isn't a purely algorithmic issue. The intersection of parenting/motherhood Internet communities, institutional skepticism, and right-wing apologism is real, though I haven't yet done the work to tease it apart. I've seen it and brushed elbows with it.

We need to talk about how social media algorithms push moms down a slippery slope of distrust.

From "Are my kids getting enough support in school?" To "Maybe I should homeschool." To "Maybe modern medicine is bad."

I've seen this first-hand in research I'm doing on parenting apps. 1/🧵

Sure a car can do this, but the goal of good urban design is to give people the freedom to choose a better tool for the trip.

That's not always a huge cargo bike, it can be walking, a simple bike with panniers, or even public transit. In the end, each choice helps evaporate car traffic in cities.

I just checked and this is real. It's on Border Patrol's official Instagram (I don't see it on Facebook) and is being celebrated by Nazis on Twitter, as you can see in the screenshot.

The clip is just 13 seconds long too, so it's a very intentional thing. We've got a Nazi government.
Twitter account: Uncensored @HmanQuotes1945: Official border patrol Facebook page is posting with the banned lyrics of Michael Jackson's song.
