Still, the SSPs have a place in Integrated Assessment Modeling and scenario development, and the role of the #ScenarioServices team at @iiasa.ac.at is to develop the tools and packages for modelers and expert users. And I think the new generation of #ScenarioExplorer apps is a big step forward...

Fully agree that the SSPs are not helpful for policy & communication related to climate change - starting with the framework design where GDP is an exogenous input, leading to the misconception that the SSPs forecast GDP growth even at +4°C!... 🫠

ACRP-Klimaforschung von 7 Mio. (2024) auf 2 Mio. (2025) gekürzt.

Der Politik mangelt es prinzipiell an Sachkenntnis. Das ist vorerst kein Problem. Schwierig wird es dann, wenn sie Expert:innen brüskieren. Wie bei der Verlängerung der Wehrpflicht. Dazu heute in den Vorarlberger Nachrichten.

For a decade, the Shared Socioeconomics Pathways #SSP are used for scenario research related to climate change mitigation.

It's all so "she made me do it" blaming the victim, and this iteration closely echoes a previous admin. one. Rhetoric justifies bloodshed in this frame, and his rhetoric uses the passive tense/vagueness to avoid saying 'we will shed blood.'

i was actually shocked to see the numbers on new research from Global Energy Monitor on new gas projects in the US: nearly 100 gigawatts of power—enough to power tens of millions of homes—are currently in development explicitly to power data centers. At the end of 2023 that number was 4 gigawatts
