This seems like it should be a way more humongous story, considering it’s about Elon Musk using Grok as a tool to commit violence against women on Twitter

🤬🤬🤬
ICYMI: Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok is “altering images to depict real women being sexually abused, humiliated, hurt, and even killed.”

While Trump lickspittle Pierre Poilievre fails to condemn an obvious violation of international law, it’s worth noting that 50% of Conservatives approve of the Trump administration.

This tells you everything you need to know about the state of the Conservative Party.

Not to mention all the people executed in the boats.
Reminder that Pierre Poilievre has a Venezuelan wife and is celebrating the death of 40 Venezuelans.

The thing that makes the most sense to me is that autocracy is necessarily arbitrary. As Orwell pointed out, the point of the Party is Power, there is no purpose other than power, and power is most perfectly expressed through nonsensical violent cruelty.

I've been reading the excellent The Mind's Eye by Oliver Sacks, in my continuing search to learn all the things about medical history to provide interesting challenges for Ruth in my next novel. It's fascinating, as are most of Sacks' books, but this is probably not his best. He tells multiple stories of people who have various visual losses, of the ability to read, to see with binocular vision, to cope with blindness.

Feels like for a lot of people, the president's biggest sin is just being to blunt too put a nice, jingoistic, propagandistic cover on what the what US is and does and always has been.

Public figures squawking about democracy and liberation while he goes "BLOOD AND OIL" is darkly, darkly funny.

When people argue that renewable energy sources are too expensive, remember that we don’t invade countries to seize wind farms and there are no solar cartels. Fossil fuels have enormous geopolitical, public health, and climate externalities.

The stories making the news about unvaccinated children dying from the flu are heartbreaking, and while I understand that in our current environment it is necessary to point out that these were healthy kids, it's also necessary to remember why we're pointing this out: eugenicists currently run HHS.

For all the few people who, last week, told me Trump never had a mandate to annex Canada so not to worry, MAGA isn’t supporting it—

—I hope this week you’re recalibrating your expectations and acting accordingly.
Talking with people at a holiday gathering here in Toronto last night, and when it came up, most of us nodded that we likely won’t ever visit the United States again.

It’s a weird feeling, and weird to acknowledge in a group.

Again, the Conservative Party is endorsing the US invading a sovereign state and kidnapping its president. What will Poilievre say if the US decides that Canadian sovereignty is equally malleable?

Actually, that exactly how JURISDICTION works unless you have an extradition treaty
Vance pushes back and says this was not illegal, arguing "Maduro has multiple indictments in the United States for narcoterrorism. You don't get to avoid justice for drug trafficking in the United States because you live in a palace in Caracas."
