My experience as well. So far we're 2-for-2 on kids having a largely bullying/abuse-free middle school experience. Not without bumpy spots of course, but light years away from what I endured.
My hot take: the anti-bullying stuff has really worked, which is why conservatives are pushing back at it.

for what it’s worth I got roped into helping out with my sixth grader’s extracurricular thing so I’ve had more recent contact with middle schoolers who aren’t mine than I usually do, and biased sample/biased reviewer/etc but my verdict is that the kids are all right

I've become more mindful of this as I've taught and I've tried to write exams such that extra time isn't necessary and/or everyone can have extra time. The time limit is artificial anyway. The accommodation that I think ends up being more useful for some students is a low-distraction environment.
the thing about extra-time accommodations is that either they help you a lot or they don't matter much, and if they help you a lot that is evidence that you should get them

Either way, expect prosecutions in the future.

This can tell us two things I think. First, it requires a deep and fully organized effort to discriminate against people like this. Also because it takes that effort, trans hatred isnt a natural outcome. We can make our world as accepting as we like if we work as hard as they do!
I suspect the OU paper thing is a deliberate astroturfed set up designed to keep pressure on universities so that they discriminate against queer and trans staff. OU snapped to pretty quickly. Everyone had a statement ready. Oh look TPUSA is involved!
