Mutual cooperation is the optimal game theory strategy for most complicated games. It is smart to be kind. But the cooperation cannot be naive. Part of intelligent cooperation is working together to shut down bad faith actors.

Can you imagine if the Democratic party pulled its head out of its ass, whipped the party line to be supporting trans people, and then set aside funds and some logistics admins for a program called "Trans People Against Fascism", to support any trans person who wants to get organizing?

I often think about the fact that if the FBI et al had not killed Fred Hampton, he would be 78 today. Younger than Jesse Jackson was. Must have felt strange to outlive many of your contemporaries by decades.

Missouri officials directed county election administrators to make voters temporarily unable to vote if they were flagged as potential noncitizens by a federal tool.

But in hundreds of cases, the tool's determinations were wrong.

The Department of Homeland Security pushed out the revamped tool while it was still adding data. That led to widespread misidentification, particularly for citizens born outside the U.S.

I think it’s time for Democratic leaders to start saying “if you’re a pilot or ground crew involved in a deportation that was stayed by a judge, you’ll be held criminally liable for human trafficking.” Everyone involved in these flights should have that fear in the back of their minds.
Overnight, this probable ICE flight landed in Benin and is now returning to Senegal, likely for a crew layover.

As @daedsider.bsky.social has rightly noted, "Once you understand that a driving principle of American politics is there is no such thing as a compassionate solution that's cheap enough or a cruel solution that's too expensive, a lot of things click into place." I think about that a lot. :(

This is—ironically enough—what I am talking about.

RW voters who demand their bigotries be accommodated are never "radical" or "throwing a tantrum." No—those are "swing voters" to pursue, even as they fail to show up time & again. The goal here isn't a bigger tent, but to prevent movement leftward.

I do think there’s a certain type of Democrat that realizes it’s possible we are dealing with a perfect storm where almost any Democrat will win, and are terrified we might nominate radical candidates who will actually engage in needed change instead of status quo corporate centrist bullshit.
One of the interesting things this time around is just how hollow the whole thing sounds. In the past, people have been able to use the empty concept of electability to anoint and position the person they demanded, but now that Republicans are getting obliterated everywhere, that doesn't work.
If I were a Democrat concerned about winning elections and was hearing that a significant number of voters wouldn’t support Gavin Newsom in 2028, I would simply stop pushing Gavin Newsom in 2026.

1) not the point
2) a lot of people won’t
3) we need better anyway
4) and we HAVE better
5) so when people start pushing the ham sandwich
6) we say hey the soggy ham sandwich, that’s a really bad idea
7) which IS the point

look if you want to freak out about people not voting newsom if he's the nominee a week before the 2028 general election, I kinda get it (but don't say you weren't warned). doing it now though is just a weird attempt to strong arm people into supporting him in the primary.
I think most (not all) of the "I will never vote for Gavin Newsom" people are communists who are mad that Americans don't like communism and want to destroy the Democratic party out of revenge. They don't care how many elections Republicans win or how many trans people die as long as the Dems fall.
