This. If Trump doesn't need Congress in order to fund the military, the Constitution is out the window and Congress is irrelevant.

There's *also* no reason to actually reconvene Congress. Evidently Trump will just fund whatever he wants and fire whoever he wants even if the government is shut down.

I understand the optics here but this is also literally why Charles met his end in Whitehall, either Article I means what it says or it doesn't and the Constitution is dissolved

So the Dems need to be clear again that any FMer carrying out direction to implement mil paychecks in the absence of appropriations will be subject to anti-deficiency act criminal penalties, because to be clear even with the reconciliation slush fund BS there is no way to legally so this, period

JB Pritzker has also been emphatically placing Trump's mental decline squarely on the agenda. On our pod, he adds a new element: People around Trump are using his decline to manipulate him, so they're less likely to intervene. More Dems should say this. 1/

“One of the chants that has become ubiquitous at these protests at Broadview is, ‘Love your neighbor, love your God, save your soul and quit your job,’” said Black, who pastors at the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago. “Everybody chants that.”

I think that between Epstein, the shutdown, and frog wizard, the political tides are in our favor at the moment. I know there will be a time when that is not the case. But that is all the more reason not to find a reason to spin victory into defeat now.

My alt text will suck, but this is going around now. Portland frog facing off ICE really has become a mascot here.
A painting of a lone green and white belly frog wearing a blue scarf is facing off a line of feds, who are in helmets and faceguard and carrying batons. A line of tear gas flows up into the sky from the cops.

A traveler from an antique land--great guy--said to me with tears in his eyes "Sir, two vast and trunkless legs of stone stand in the desert." And I said wow, that's really something. But we'll be building a big beautiful statue to my hubris and it will stand for eternity

in some ways its genuinely impressive how Democrats have consistently been able to right the failures of the previous Dem administration, before immediately slamming headlong into new and interesting failures of their own making

Clinton started big liberal after Carter basically whiffed his majority but Hillarycare failed, Obama got healthcare done but whiffed on the America Jobs Act, Biden got his American Jobs Plan passed under another name (and whittled down) but whiffed on Trump and the VRA

Okay, that "speech" is literally the most senile I've ever seen Trump act and that is including that time he just stood around for a half-hour vibing to the Who Won't Sue Us If We Use Their Music megamix on the campaign trail. Like, we are passing "middle-stage symptoms of senility" here.

Recent archaeological findings by archaeologist Stéphen Rostain, reveal that the Amazon supported vast & complex ancient urban societies.

He’s hopeful that new archaeological understanding of the Amazon will challenge centuries of prejudice against Indigenous people & offer answers for the future.
Indigenous myths reveal Amazon’s past truths: Interview with Stéphen Rostain
Now a leading archaeologist, Rostain was discouraged at first. “No one is interested in archaeology of the Amazon.”

Each day, I recognize (to paraphrase Lincoln again) that
the brave men and women, living and dead, who have struggled in
our Nation's service have hallowed our Constitutional freedom
far above my (or anyone’s) poor power to add or detract. The
only Constitutional rights upon which we can depend are those we
extend to the weakest and most reviled among us.

The ruling itself is remarkable, but it closes with something I've never seen: a 12-page assessment of Trump himself as an ignorant bully, braggart and threat to free speech and the republic writ-large. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
