my "current operations are lawful under US and international law" t-shirt has a lot of people asking questions that are answered by my t-shirt
a lot of words, none of them denying that Hegseth gave an order to kill helpless people who were stranded at sea after he blew up their boats

Looks like it suddenly occurred to Major Pete that he might be spending time on the inside of a prison cell once the circus leaves town

In case you’re wondering why Pete Hegseth is freaking out about a congressional video reminding the military not to participate in illegal orders:
To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.
Textbook war crime/extrajudicial killing

"Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck. The Special Operations commander overseeing the Sept. 2 attack ... ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions."

Then everyone promptly memory-holes that and goes right back to acting as if he's invincible.

It's the dumbest Groundhog Day loop ever
its also remarkable because time and time again people show you can frighten him off by acting tough and occasionally punching him in the nose
He’s at 60% disproval lol

"Grok, make me look 50 pounds lighter and 20 years younger."
does kinda feel notable that Trump is trying to make an explicitly personal party faction rebrand and that its almost certainly going nowhere (also lmao that photo looks NOTHING like him)

i keep saying this, but there are reasons that his scheming viziers are doing everything they can to keep dems out of his office
I gotta say the part of all this that made me question Trump's mental health the most was actually his super chill meeting with Mamdani. He's a lot more all over the place a lot more often and in ways he hasn't been before.

(committing crimes with full confidence that the already decaying geriatric president who repeatedly screws his own people over will be alive in three years and ready to pardon me)
SecDef* Hegseth might want to give some thought as to whether President Pudding-for-brains will have enough mental acuity left to remember to pardon him before the circus leaves town. I'm just saying.

Turns out they're not in it for Trump, they're in it for themselves.

This is only going to get worse for him. There isn't a road back to popularity that Trump will be able to take.

<Jon Stewart eating popcorn dot GIF>
…to the point that his party’s elite are starting to have a quiet but serious freakout over it that has spread rapidly in recent weeks, per many source convos

It will get harder to publicly deny or hide as we get closer to an election that isn’t off year

Gift link for anyone who wants it.

And this reading between the lines makes sense. The sources for the story are likely people high up in the Pentagon who oppose Hegseth's illegal orders. This is what it looks like when they fight back. (Open opposition likely would get them removed and replaced.)

I feel like, "Why do Trump's doctors keep administering cognitive exams to him?" is a question the media might want to pursue, if for some reason they were inclined to apply the same standards to a Republican politician that they do to Democratic ones.
There is no reason for anyone to be intimidated by this unpopular failing lame duck whose mental and physical health is circling the drain
Four polls in recent days now have Trump in the 30s, with 3 at 35%-36%: 2/
35%-62% (-27) ARG
35%-56% (-21) High Point University
36%-60% (-24) Gallup
38%-57% (-19) Econ/YouGov
Again, Trump just keeps dropping.

I keep saying if you want a better opposition party, the time to make sure that happens is now. You can get involved, no one is stopping you!
I find the 'the Democrats won't do anything' doomer line annoying, because the Democrats will be who you make them - look how much the GOP changed over the past decade!

Right now the party feels immovable but the moment it has a presidential nominee, it will be whatever that person is.

Trump isn't just any asshole. He's a clearly cognitively declining, sundowning, misogynist, angry, bitter asshole. This unhinged woman hater has no business living in our White House. Also, what a repugnant lack of group solidarity by these reporters; particularly the men.

Huh. I had not considered that. But yeah, plausible.
(An *interesting* factor, I think, is that this is the first Labour government ever to take office in which every single figure in it came of age *after* the Liberals became a proper third force, and I wonder sometimes if that has weakened Labour's liberal tendency.)
