One of my favorite gifts to give catechumens and confirmands. I am so thankful that it is still in print and it is still such a cornerstone in my daily life. Fun fact: I owned the St. Augustine’s prayer book before I became an Anglican, I say it led me to the church as an unbeknownst witness. 10/10🔥
New level of Anglicanism unlocked.

‘He grew up among a people subjected to military occupation’ is particularly interesting given that Congar also experienced that.
I know the world is rough right now. "it is a history made up of the trampling of the weak by the strong, the crushing of the little by the great, and, for the majority of men, the incredible accumulation of woes." That's why you should read this excerpt from Congar, so you can see where God stands.

If you had to give someone a short, accessible essay (or chapter or article or video or podcast) introducing them to the God-Man Jesus Christ, what would you give them? ⚓

Lancelot Andrewes instructed priests to pour wine into the chalice so that it looked like gushing blood. So metal. What a goth.

Probably one of my favorite essays of all time: McCullough's reconstruction of Andrewes's liturgical practices. ⚓

when we see the world with angelic eyes, we don't see the world as a kind of anti-parable, where people are objects to be manipulated & owned, conscripted into our narratives of possession & anger & lust, forced to serve as pawns in our disputes... ⚓

Definitely one of those crazy busy weeks where the best sermon prep is just saying, "God, I'm not sure I can do this. Would you write it for me?" ⚓
And they told you Episcopalians don't believe in the resurrection

If you, like me, do not know much about global Anglican political machinations, you’re in luck! I had the Rev. Mark Michael, editor-in-chief of The Living Church, on to provide context and analysis of this GAFCON moment ⚓️

Good morning Anglicans! I need more resources for new Anglicans that are called things like "rookie Anglican" or "an introduction to Anglican tradition" or "what is All Saints Day" that are SEO so my people quit going to ACNA resources aligned with the 2008 Jerusalem Declaration ⚓

One of the central problems of Christology is defending the idea that Jesus Christ was "fully human." But how do we know what a "full human" looks like? We approach the problem from the wrong end, thinking ourselves human. It is the reverse: we look to Jesus Christ and this glance humanizes *us.* ⚓

So crazy that there is a place in the world where 40 people can gather to study the chants of the Mass—guided by the University of Notre Dame's own Dr. Rebecca Maloy, one of the world's top experts in sacred music. But that's Church of the Ascension for you! ⚓

Big fan of the RC Catechism (1.2.2.3) on this subject - specifically IV.470-474, e.g. Christ is "like us in all things but sin", had to learn and grow in wisdom, but also enjoyed "enjoyed in his human knowledge the fullness of understanding of the eternal plans he had come to reveal"

I was just asked this very fascinating question in regards to whether Scripture can err—a very important question given the Global Anglican Communion set up by GAFCON has made scriptural inerrancy foundational. I tried to give a little response in the replies. ⚓

Woke up Thursday. Wrestled with Scripture, writing a sermon. Really felt Paul's call to lay aside all dissension and to preach sound doctrine. Then I logged on and saw the news of Anglicanism's deepening rifts. Not sure if you can respond to something before you know about it? ⚓
