I have an unfinished embroidery hoop in the closet! *gasp* I had forgotten it is mala suerte to leave an embroidery project unfinished! I abandoned it last Christmas (or Epiphany?). Thereabouts.

That’s why my year has been so unlucky. Argh.

I was gifted an embroidery kit from 1968. I decided to do my own thing with it- like changing out the wool thread for overdyed silks. #embroidery #wip

In fact, a lot of this whole “Christmas is actually pagan” thing has its roots in white supremacy and Nazism. This is a great article about the subject

The whole “Christians stole Christmas and Easter” thing really chafes me because:

(1) It’s ahistorical,

(2) Christians don’t even all use the same calendar, and

(3) Sometimes Christians do Christian things for Christian reasons? Can have please just have our holy days?
This is a common idea, but there’s no direct evidence for it.

But there is evidence early Christians thought the dates of Jesus’ conception, birth and death aligned with the spring and winter equinox.

Makes sense if you think Jesus is literally God, right? youtu.be/5lsctaPJSvo?...

Not joking, if you ever need someone on a panel to tell the audience that this totally innocuous thing was actually filled with a level of hate that should scare them, in the 18th century, I've got you!

18th century! Oh goodness, I caught that, thank you
I am so tired, but I am still on 17th century Spain (Felipe V, French Century, Fernando, VI, Carlos III, etc.) I need to be done with the Spanish Civil War by midday, then go to back to sleep for six hours.

Spiritual wisdom in this thread for a lot of us.
My 2025 spiritual year in review is this:

I have fallen in love with the minor prophets. Most of them I had never fully read before and now I have at least a couple times. They are comforting and energizing for times like these.

I am profoundly thankful for my church community. Losing my mom

"Away in" is just the English translation of "Pret."
Time for my annual close-reading-the-carol-sheet question: what does the "Away" in "Away in a Manger" actually mean?

Mr. Speaker, can the Prime Minister inform this honourable House if the recent appointment of Labour peers in The Other Place effectively means that the reform thereof has come to a standstill and thus the status quo will remain as heretofore?
