yeah it's basically used as a synonym for stern, humorless, inflexible (a cousin is "Puritan"), and then you just attach a bunch more vibes to that and boom you get "Calvinism"

the position of the administration it seems is that it is illegal discrimination and divisive racism for historically excluded groups to organize on that basis to improve their position. it’s basically just a genteel version of david duke’s complaint that there wasn’t a NAACP for white people

I know it is beside the point because this administration simply wants resegregation but conferences for Black professional associations have always been open to everyone. Typically, the started as a response to white exclusion, and did not replicate that.

Very bad: OSU unilaterally cancelled the registration of grad students attending the joint conference of the National Society of Black Physicists and the National Society of Hispanic Physicists. And OSU won't fund recruiting at the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science.

sometimes I am paying attention to the words; and other times the music simply provides an ambiance to personal prayer; or to a text from the Prayer Book or the Bible that I'm reviewing

but at the same time, an offertory anthem is a big deal in a lot of western Anglican liturgy and music (idk if this is also the case outside of Europe and North America), and I will admit, even my ambivalent-about-choirs self enjoys the meditative aspect of it
