Leonard and Hungry Paul trivia: anyone notice that, when he's picking up his mother's ashes, Leonard (who has no surname in the book) gives the surname Dranoel (Leonard backwards).

Before I ever thought of writing a book, I used to make up stories for my kids about a little boy, Leonard Dranoel.

Thanks to all the new readers and of course, to all the saintly booksellers who have supported the book 🙏
TV series of Leonard & Hungry Paul has concluded & the responses have been phenomenal.

We have never ever sold so many copies of a book in a 3 month period like this.

With Rónán appearing on BBC Radio 4 soonish & the TV series on RTÉ next year, fingers crossed it continues!

One of my favourite people & writers, @patrickfreyne.bsky.social has written an excellent novel about a band. It’s v funny, moving, clever and captures a specific kind of Dublin. Also features “bastard deodorant - for bastards!”. Out in June, but please pre-order it: linktr.ee/expertsinady...

My son got his hair cut. I told him he now had Action Man hair. He didn't get the reference so now I've ended up going down a weird Internet wormhole, being reminded how odd Action Man was.

Polite public announcement:

I'm taking an extended break from reviewing books in order to rebalance my workload and focus on my writing.

Publisher/PR people: best not to send me proofs.

Likewise, blurb requests. I have always tried to be supportive but I need to read for my own writing now.

This is a very funny piece of writing by Peter Lonsdale in which I appear as the character of Andy Miller. It's based on an interview we did eight years ago. Thanks to @irishtimes.com for having the foresight and hindsight to run it. @backlisted.bsky.social www.irishtimes.com/culture/book...

I've decided to overlook the first 45 minutes of that first half and focus on the Watford equalizer.

A bit of a sickener that Jebbison scored but I have enough football miles on my clock to expect such karmic occurrences.

First eye test in three years and, miraculously, there's no change in my eyesight. My tired, strained, overworked eyeballs are just fine, it turns out.

It also means that I'll have these glasses (i.e. this face) for another few years.
