Sorry to hear this Francois. My condolences.
Saw them last week in Dublin and they were amazing but I did feel that his playing did take over at points. Clearly a significant cohort of the audience were there to geek out at the guitar playing.
He’s amazing all right. Though I do think it’s sometimes in danger of taking over a bit and overshadowing the songs. Fantastic gig though.
And not in a good way …
Every time someone chairing a meeting moves to bring it to a close by confirming that they are “conscious of time” I wonder why we are suddenly talking about phenomenology.

Mine too! No contest really.
Nice one Ro. You’ve reminded me I’ve been meaning to read Mahfouz for ages. Just ordered Palace Walk from Kenny’s. 10 euros. Delivered free to the door. Amazing.
I hope this doesn’t mean that I owe him one.
Because of this photo, I spent the whole gig worried he was going be hauled out at some stage.
There was a “stock market analyst” on Irish radio this morning admitting there was a bubble, acknowledging that it would burst, but then rapidly pivoting to “this is actually a good thing”. Infuriating. I think she quoted Bezos saying that this was a “good bubble”.
We need a Dublin version of this.

Bowie, Lodger. Tbf, you could pick any number less than or equal to 13 with Bowie.
I baulked at paying 18 euros for that privilege and opted for a standard screening instead. Kind of regret that now though.
Discovered this recently and I love it more than anything else I’ve encountered in the last year. I so want a copy on vinyl now.

Protests, mass meetups, conferences—a youth-led movement is reclaiming the Luddite mantle, rejecting a future dominated by Silicon Valley companies, toxic apps, and generative AI.

This fall, a "Luddite renaissance" is in full swing.

Mine arrived in Dublin today (new sub because I’d let it lapse) with no problems or extra charges. My only complaint would be that they have not honoured my choice of “Lord and Lady” from their selection of available honorifics. Do better @lrb.co.uk .
I love those guys. My band had the honour of opening for them in Dublin many years ago and not only were they completely sound but when they came back a few years later they made point of asking after us.
It was really good. I was sucked in by the Berman comparisons.
I have a bike pannier I inherited from my late father. He must have bought it in the late 70s or early 80s. It still works, is in good nick, and it looks classy. A backup I bought a few years ago has already fallen apart.
Reminder that things are in fact worse quality for more money, that no, Elder Gen Z/millennials/gen x, you're not imagining it, nor should you accept it as "the way things are."

Shirts I've had 30 fucking yrs are still wearable, but a shirt I've had 2 months & worn MAYBE twice is already unraveling
