Actually slightly understating the figures - felonies in San Francisco until end of September 2015- 47, 169, (CompStat) felonies up to 12 October 2025 21,819. Maybe some relabelling one the margins but a very clear picture.

This is why driverless cabs are not in fact going to be the answer for urban traffic. Sufficient Waymos just to move the passengers using the 38 Geary in SF (for example) would create total gridlock.
A standard MTS 40ft bus seats around 30-35 people (60 with standing). Next time you’re completely stuck in traffic in San Diego, try to count how far ahead 35 cars is - if you can see that far.

Every single Republican President since Nixon has had a recession start on their watch- Ford 1974, Reagan 1981-1983, G.W.H. Bush 1990-1991, G.W. Bush 2008. So Trump 2020? I think there is a decent chance that Covid covered a recession that was already building.
Five state prisons have closed in California under Newsom and current projections are another five could close in the next few years. Prisoner numbers in California have fallen from a peak of 165,000 in 2006 to 91,000 now whilst violent crime has plummeted.
Not much else makes sense- San Francisco violent crime is now 50% of what it was in 2015 and it is difficult to believe this is due to increased under-reporting.
Strange thought. Could the current rightwing hysteria about urban crime be precisely because crime has been falling dramatically lately? Are threatened financial interests in carceral/enforcement activities the real reason behind this rhetoric and detaining obviously non-criminal immigrants?
Doubling down on fossil fuels in the USA is also committing to what is obviously an increasingly inefficient and expensive form of power. The low hanging fruit is long gone.
