How is it we can add private security guards to the market without a big staff report or even council debate on their impact but not “just do” other things like banning right on red in downtown intersections?

We can just try more things if we wanted to.

New (to me) whack of gas ads landed on OC Transpo buses. 🙄

I feel like the city should release all the ads they run on the open data portal similar to how Google and Facebook release the for transparency.

I think one way to help dispel utility scale battery storage myths planned for rural communities might be to set up a demo container at some of the rural weekend markets. Paint it to look like a barn. Use it to provide free power/device charging to vendors/visitors.

Looking for books to get for #climate curious friends & family this Christmas🎄?

Here are 6 of my favourites reads this year.

First up, Yale University historian Sunil Amrith's relentlessly edifying 'The Burning Earth'. A staggeringly comprehensive account of how we got to where we are! 🧵

I’m pretty sure our 7yo’s class is singing a song for their Christmas Concert entirely made with AI and the teacher didn’t notice. The lyrics don’t make any sense.

Comments turned off. This is bleak. It’s probably too late for them to learn a new song too.

The talking points of these battery project opponents could be plucked from any consultation.

This explains something that has always mystified me about drivers who rail against bike lanes and transit. Why WOULDN'T you want people to have options not to drive? It would make your own driving better! But they don't just want good traffic, they want to reinforce the NORM of driving
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

Rainway

Sketching something similar to the St. George rainway on Lakewood Street (next to Secord elementary) given the amount of traffic that flows through there while we’re biking to and from school… i’ve been imagining a Rainway running from the top of the hill all the way to Trout Lake.

Anyone know if these is feasible for any of the now-on-hold Ottawa bike lane projects?
narrowing car lanes is a good way to force low-speed streets in addition to a way to provide bike lanes without getting caught in the province's stupid legislation.

bike on, toronto. the province can try, but this is a city that walks, bikes, and takes transit in huge numbers and that won't change.

Everything in this MOU is bad.

Likely overlooked is the suspension of the Clean Electricity Regulations in Alberta (which will surely lead to them being removed everywhere)

They would have saved 181 Mt of GHGs.

Thousands of people fought for years to get these regs. Less than a year later. Gone.

Critics of renewable energy often claim that these technologies are making the world’s electricity grids more vulnerable to power outages.

However, global data doesn’t support the sceptics’ claims. In fact, there's evidence that the opposite is true.

In Germany, power availability to homes and businesses has increased over the years – even as the share of renewables has climbed.
