Overall, I would say that YouTube music, as usual with Google products fails the important "does this lack the functionality that you would have put in having thought about this for five minutes" test

The ancient ones performed feats of memory, as their culture required them to commit long strings of numbers to their mind palaces.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Finding out that Jared Leto kept doing his method acting shit and insisted on staying in character on the set of Tron Ares and would only answer to the name of Ares is so funny, like making a big ass douche of yourself for the third Tron movie where you play “computer program that gains feelings”

Its wild too because apparently Tron Ares was a different story/film initially but Leto wanted to explore his character so much he convinced the director to change it to focus on him.
“The first iteration of [Tron: Ares] was a different movie, but it had a character named Ares that [Leto] was cast as while we were in pre-production,” Wigutow says, “He really got his teeth into this character and really wanted to hold onto it, and ultimately came to me and said, ‘Let's just build a movie around this character. I want to understand this character, his origins, and I want to take him to a very different place.’ So that's really the provenance and the origin of this specific film is Jared's dogged persistence on getting it done, but also telling the story of this character specifically.”

I am a cis woman. I have endometriosis, adenomyosis, I have had ten miscarriages, I may have ovarian cancer, I an about to have a total hysterectomy. The idea that that malfunctioning, agonising, broken BASTARD of a reproductive system is what makes me a woman is actually downright offensive....

I'm like this, but with Cinnamon Toast Crunch flavours
An as yet unopened box of Strawberry Toast Crunch. It sounds wretched...is it also cinnamon flavoured? But nevertheless, I had to try it.

That's fair - it's been mainly posters, buses etc here.

Do Ginger Bread Doritos look terrible? Yes. Am I going to try them? Also yes. Will I regret them? Almost certainly.

I guarantee, if they put Gillian Anderson front and centre of the Tron marketing instead of Jared Leto, it would have done better.

STEPHANOPOULOS: I didn't insinuate anything. I asked you whether Tom Homan accepted $50k as was heard on an audio tape recorded by the FBI in September 2024. You did not answer the question. Thank you for your time.

VANCE: No, George, I sai--

I think one reason we have an elitism divide with the arts now has a lot to do with the reduction of proper documentary and discussion from TV. There used to be something on every single night like that.

The U.K. becoming poorer and poorer in comparison to the US has been the elephant in the room since the 2008 financial crisis. Has completely beggared the country.

Since 2019, the UK economy has barely grown if we adjust for immigration. Poland’s, however, has grown by more than 18% - and is set to overtake Japan in the early 2030s

Men using ChatGPT on dating apps illustrates the depressing point that for some men, everything between the first hello and having sex with a woman (chatting, getting to know them, going on dates, etc) is just frustrating admin that has to be endured beforehand & they want to automate it.

An historically queer- and particularly trans-friendly Southend pub that reopened last week under new management, after a five-year hiatus, has fucked it already. Who might have guessed that vague and hostile legislation from this government would result in real-world confusion and discrimination?
We're disappointed to learn today that a long-loyal patron of The Railway Hotel was discriminated against on the basis of their identity in the pub last night.

We won't reshare details of the incident here, as we're hopeful the new Management will take some time to reflect on this incident, apologise to those affected, and assure that it won't happen again.

For over twenty years, the Railway was an accepting, respectful, and welcoming place for all people, and especially to those patrons within the LGBT community who considered the Railway a safe space. We should be clear that this diversity of community and artistic spirit is what made the Railway Hotel the best venue in town.

We truly hope that the new management can put our queer friends and family at ease by taking steps to ensure this kind of anti-LGBT sentiment or behaviour isn't repeated or tolerated. Martin Cutmore:

Jamie has put out why he felt he had to say what he did. He genuinely believes his hands are tied by the law. If that's incorrect then folks in the know should engage with him.

It's a sad old state of affairs whatever one's stance on the situation

Friends of the Railway Hotel:

Martin, agreed. We hope this will be a learning opportunity for the new management.

Hopefully they'll take on board that the rise in transphobia and anti-queer discrimination societally doesn't legitimise those attitudes in what was a previously inclusive venue.

If that's the path they wish to go down, I'm sure the local queer community would appreciate the clarification; as at the moment they're making a lot of people feel very unwelcome. Teez Riot:

Markus Birdman I'm trans and got told off for using the womens toilet by the landlord. The landlord pulled me aside and said 'dont use that toilet again". I said how do you know my gender, he said 'its obvious, and it's the law'

Georgia Sanders:

Teez Riot oh for fucks sake I was so happy to see they'd reopened it as well, this is gutting.

I'm so sorry this happened to you Teez Riot:

I have contacted The Railway Hotel, we have agreed to remove our posts due to the levels of negativity encouraged. The responding comments alone are most upsetting and triggering.

I have faith that Jamie and folks are listening to everyone and will do everything they can to accommodate, making us all feel safe

I will personally continue to support the venue and I ask my friends to keep the faith.

I regret posting this when I was upset last night. This is where I air my views. I apologise for how I handled this

My local bookshop @allgoodbookshop.co.uk has sold 35 copies of The Crooked Medium's Guide to Murder - crikey!! They sell my signed copies. It's also in the Quaker Book Centre, Euston Rd, London.

Check out this "astonishing feat" "absolute perfection" "fun read" of a novel

#books #bookshop #crime

A book cover surrounded by the following aspects in matching Victorian lettering - spooky / Vicious Baronet / Spiritualist Scammers/ Hidden Crimes / older grumpy sapphics / snarky dock-lass/ twisty mystery / Lady in Danger/Queer Found Family
The Crooked Medium’s Guide to Murder by Stephen Cox
A striking book cover with the title and author name dominating.
A rich dark blue background, and a touch of mist. The text appears in gold in a gold rectangular frame, the font is old fashioned implying C19th century. The frame has three rondels or cameos each containing a picture. Top right is a golden bee brooch with the body and one wing streaked with red blood. Middle left is foxgloves, spires of small bell flowers in pink, white and purple. Bottom right is a dark brown medicine bottle, with a pale label. The word LAUDANUM is just visible.
There are pink highlights on some of the letters.
Taken together it is bold, mysterious, and Victorian.
