my adoration for yakuza 5 is a mystery because it frontloads the shit i don’t like in rgg’s narratives and i’m still like “yeah but it’s awesome though”
also i think 8’s finale is bad comparatively to 4 and 5’s off the rails endings because the rest of 8 is like, what i was expecting from a post-0/7 writing team where they mostly clocked in what works and what doesn’t
also calling it “Yakuza Kiwami 3” instead of “Like a Dragon Kiwami 3” really reaffirms they gave up on any semblance of global brand integrity in trade for regional search engine optimization, even after three games that only had Like a Dragon in the title
ITS CRAZY i don’t understand why they implemented a fun (albeit very abusable) juggling system they stopped trying to make it something that functions almost at all
like even after LAD8 had just an astoundingly messy final quarter and finale after 7’s being relatively tight all around thoughtful experience i’ll probably still eye up 9 before release but anything with Yakuza in the title i am just going to write off as snake oil
oh yeah i think i’m still a pretty Day 1 RGG guy outside of yakuza but its an incredibly feel bad statement to make considering RGG is what got me invested in RGG
i would absolutely be more generous to PY for being a dorky “here’s some bullshit” game but it was the second action game in row doing core combat design changes and i was like “well lets see how this shakes it up for the series” and the outcome was just bad both times
pirate yakuza and tmwehn might be the most rgg has gouged the fanbase for cash i do not understand why either of those got away with the price tag when the kiwami games were 30/40 at launch
anticipating the announcement for me was the last straw in whether or not i let myself decide if i buy another yakuza game period without a friend i trust telling me to try it.
they made like, every wrong move possible besides whatever the Mine stuff is, but i am not paying 60 bucks for that
a better idea. also, for some reason we are discussing a mobile (gacha?) game as an actual functional successor to games that were built to be engaged with in a non-daily play-to-progress setup and that’s it?
just personal taste and really only masks the problem that they are, for some inexplicable reason, building off the dissidia game that people absolutely loathed for core fundamental gameplay reasons inherent to its battle setup and for some reason thats fine because nomura couldn’t come up with-
like hey dude i don’t really care for aesthetic changes to final fantasy characters, i think the the pre-ff7 characters look like huge dorks with modern clothes because of their personalities being not contemporary or body builds that are too outlandish for modern street clothing, but that’s-
people have a really magical understanding of game development decisions that somehow explains away fan dissatisfaction with developer quotes about how “no its fine actually they didn’t have any new ideas with this”
It is very good that Discord seemingly built their initial game list from games/apps that show up in their activity feed and somehow pulled the box art for Dolphin for the 2600 when everyone is actually running Dolphin the Emulator. I hope they never change it.
NEW: Pentagon officials are forcing staff to watch Pete Hegseth's "Warrior" speech he forced generals to listen to.
Officials are even "testing" staff to see if they watched — and are threatening consequences if they lie about watching it or if they mock it, sources tell @swin24.bsky.social and I.
