Anthony Albanese must fix our broken gun laws. Anything less will fail to honour the lives of those lost at Bondi | Charles Watson and Roland Browne
The PM must show the same determination and commitment as John Howard following the Port Arthur massacre and abolish recreational hunting licences The Bondi shooting has guaranteed that formulation of new laws to control gun use will be urgently considered at state and federal levels. It is well overdue. New laws in Western Australia provide an excellent model for such laws, and it is time we had informed national oversight of gun ownership and use. Anthony Albanese must now show the same leadership, determination and commitment John Howard showed after the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, including a commitment to abolish recreational hunting licences. Anything less will fail to honour the lives of those lost at Bondi. Charles Watson is a public health physician and a board member of Gun Control Australia. Roland Browne has been a gun control advocate since 1987 and is a lawyer and vice-chair of Gun Control Australia Continue reading...

I am appalled and terrified by the immediate weaponisation of the devastating nightmare at Bondi. Jillian Segal’s recommendations were that universities and arts institutions who allowed criticism of Israel should have their funding removed- how would that have stopped this horrific attack?

To be confronted with this horrific act of antisemitic violence during the Jewish festival of light and hope is shattering. In moments like this, we hold each other close.

We should all be able to gather with our communities, practice our culture, and worship in safety. 3/4

The air around Bondi is still full of sirens, we’re safe at home but devastated and shaken. I love my community, I love our beach, I hate this so much.

I was at a cafe yesterday and a woman had a cute young dog and two strangers stopped to pat it and one asked how big the dog was going to get and she said "I don't know, I asked Chat GPT but he's already bigger than it said" and one of the strangers said "oh, ask again?" RIP to us all tbh

We're watching the wholesale burning of every scrap of dignity afforded to trans people in the UK, their rights, their medical services, their employment, their place within society, their bodily functions.

It is a disgrace, and a disgusting stain on the government and media of this country.

Listening to this is like watching someone go up the stairs in a horror movie. Don‘t get comfy man! The killer is already in the house!

The most damning information in here is that Theo Von blurbed his new book
When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?

Louis C.K.’s Next Chapter
In a new standup special, and a début novel, the comedian navigates murky, post-#MeToo terrain: not quite exiled, not quite welcomed back.

All AI images are bad and stupid and fucked but this Australian Christmas poster at a Sydney train station is really something special. My favourite bits are the kangaroo with the face of a koala and the “oops! All Union Jack” version of the flag.

I'm in the late stages of my new novel draft which means I can't read any contemporary fiction because of how my brain works so I've been picking up some classics that I never got to and can I just say...The Remains Of The Day is a perfect book. Perfect! Those 1989 Booker judges were onto something.

I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here
