“Identity politics” strikes me similarly as “politically correct.” It’s a term invented to denigrate a simple but fundamental ask: Respect who people are and don’t legislate away their existence. Until we can manage to do that, that’s what everything *should* be about. Being angry about it is weird.

There are a couple of well-followed accounts on here who say super important and interesting things, but when referring to wrongheaded people or ideas they use the clown emoji. I wish they wouldn’t. Its primary function on social media has evolved to be a quick means of bullying and punching down.
