If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

“A 50th anniversary of The Monkey Wrench Gang couldn’t be timelier,” says Doug Peacock, who inspired the character of George Hayduke in the novel. “Our American wilderness...has never been in greater peril." https://therevelator.org/doug-peacock-monkey-wrench-gang/

Now a famed grizzly conservationist, Peacock served as Edward Abbey’s inspiration for the novel’s most pivotal, piercing character.

Any news distortion claim against an NPR/PBS station would require the FCC to prove that the station's management was directly involved in knowingly distorting the news. Here, if there was any distortion, it was done by the BBC, not US stations. Carrying, or quoting from, a BBC program isn't enough

The thing about the government bailing out genAI when the bubble pops, is it can't.

It's almost half the US stock market. It is bigger than consumer spending.

The government would have to spend like half its entire budget, on something that loses billions of dollars a month, forever.

If you are able to look at this and still not see the Gestapo. You have not only failed at the Christian you say you are.
You have failed at being a human.
You are the person who turned away when children were being murdered in gas chambers.
It didn’t start in gas chambers.

Shows like The Daily and Today Explained are thoroughly marinated in “Trump this, Trump that,” to the exclusion of nearly any other issue. They also constantly refer to right-wing podcasters and influencers.

They’ve proven that their pundit-driven “programming” is addicted to this shitshow.
Yet many NPR member stations air the Times’ loathsome program The Daily, wherein NYT hacks interview other NYT hacks.

And the station donors just eat that corporate journalism shit up.
Seriously, what is wrong with these people?

Those claiming Dems should retreat on racial justice aren't hard-headed realists, they're pushing against the electoral tide rather than leaning into it. The story of Gen Z isn't about racist backlash or red-pilled young men. It's the most racially progressive generation in American history. 🧵

From this minister's op-ed: "People wanting to experience God are more likely to meet the Divine trying to shut down the Broadview, Illinois, ICE facility than we ever were in church...God does not live in our houses of worship, but...with those who are bearing the brunt of cruelty in this moment."

Paramount, Netflix, and Comcast are putting in bids for Warner Bros. Discovery.

The Telecommunications Act of 1996 was, in the long run, a very bad idea with disastrous consequences.

Nightcap:

Willie Wright | Africa

Rare soul in a sort of Bill Withers vein, but singularly his own. This beautiful song is from Wright’s self-released 1977 lo-fi album Telling the Truth. The awesome Numero Group label rereleased it in 2011.

Wright passed away in 2020.

The purpose of the system is what it does, and for the last decade you can count on one hand how many times a journalist has ever asked a followup question of trump or yet another coked up billionaire sex pest babbling incoherent word salad at them while sweating like a pig.

The most powerful question a journalist could ask of the rich and powerful is "what do you mean by that?" with the tenacity of a kid asking "why?"

Which is why they don't.
