I had so many plans for this Summer that didn't happen. Not a single one. I can blame specific outside forces for many of them, but not all.

Fenway health in Boston has stopped providing gender affirming care to trans youth.

I was previously on the board of this organization and I've never been so disgusted with their leadership cowardly capitulating like this.
Alt text:
Statement from Fenway Health explaining that due to new federal requirements effective October 1, 2025, they can no longer provide medical gender-affirming care such as hormones and puberty blockers to patients under 19, but all other services for patients of all ages will continue unchanged.

It's important to recognise the far-right's failures as much as its successes.

They're not inevitable. They're not unbeatable. Our Governments should be learning from the examples of the states across Europe beating them back.

Not the point, but I love the vibe of knights in the Americas and just the transitional period from medieval to modernity in general.

something that I've noticed about the right wing claim that woke people always say we should throw out all historical figures that weren't perfect instead of judging them by "the standards of their time" is that these same people very frequently make historical figures sound worse than they were!

"The most ubiquitous form of American culture nowadays is not jazz programming going out on shortwave radio across Eurasia, but the social-media platforms that pump conspiracy theories, extremism, advertising, pornography, and spam into every corner of the globe."

"We always think about America’s postwar role in Europe as an act of great generosity, the defense of allies from Soviet aggression. But by putting democracy at the center of our international identity, we also helped strengthen our own political system"

The Beacon of Democracy Goes Dark
For nearly 250 years, America promoted freedom and equality abroad, even when it failed to live up to those ideals itself. Not anymore.

Multiple airports are now announcing they will refuse to play Kristi Noem’s government-funded video blaming “Democrats” for the government shutdown.

“We believe the Hatch Act clearly prohibits use of public assets for political purposes and messaging,” one airport said.

one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

MAGA Rage at “No Kings” Boils Over—and It Quickly Backfires on Trump
As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americans—and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.

Red Scare show why leftism can't just be "anti": Anti-capitalism, anti-US, whatever

Leftism must be a modernist humanist project: People are valuable, truth is real, everyone deserves dignity

With no moral core of human flourishing, edgy contrarianism can take you anywhere

Also the biggest generation of people ever, on whose psychological axis all of popular culture has turned since the mid-1960s, is collectively at the age of angry panicked senility at the precise moment the first generation in two cycles finally big enough to supplant them is actually poised to.
