ICE credits the presence of Illinois State Police with their ability to work on the weekend of October 4, during which they handcuffed an alder, shot a rapid responder, unleashed CS gas in two residential neighborhoods, & kidnapped dozens of community members.

Cities should tax concentration, not participation.

Concentrated wealth

Concentrated land value

Concentrated digital infrastructure

Concentrated payroll power

That’s how you fund public services without punishing individuals.

A head tax is a small, targeted way to do exactly that.

If anyone's wondering how this is possible, the answer is these strike teams are moving terrifyingly fast. Grab first, ask questions later. We were about 8-15 minutes behind them today for several hours. They're jumping out of vans, chasing people across lawns, taking them from bus stops, etc
30 people disappeared in this shaded area today.

It is absolutely maddening to see IL police brutalize people who protest against the modern day gestapo disapearing their families and neighbors,

Only for the state to use this police brutality in federal court and argue it's why the Texas national guard isn't needed here.
Everything that just happened was both brutal and expected given how we've seen ISP behave these last few weeks.

Saw troopers striking people with batons, dragging protesters. They're currently cuffing someone marked as a medic. Approximately nine people we see in state custody now.

Despite the early police violence, protesters are still rallying in their free speech area.

Singing, "this is for the people who are locked inside. Together, we can abolish ICE!"
JB thought if he sent in ISP, the president wouldn't send in the NG.
@govpritzker.illinois.gov - These words would mean more if you weren't using IL State Police to protect ICE facilities in Broadview and detain protestors.
"Illinois is not a place you can conquer and our people are not your subjects. Period."

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker denounces the Trump admin.'s continued effort to police Chicago and it's surrounding areas with federal agents and National Guard members.

This is one of the significant fault lines between the Left(s) and the Right. On the Left(s) [in general], we believe that everyone deserves public goods and to live in dignity. Period.
Q: “Most hospitals + people who will lose insurance are in rural areas. If Trump & Republicans are so intent on sticking it to their own voters, why not let them?”

@aoc.bsky.social : “That’s the difference between us & Trump. I don’t care if you voted for me, I want you to have health care.”

the world in general would be in a far better place if more people simply read Pratchett and internalised what "just because it's funny doesn't mean it isn't serious" actually means
I think Talia generally has a lot of good things to say. I don't agree with this though. 1
as charming and whimsical as some will view this, it bears noting that absurdity—not militancy or might—are what people have chosen to repeat from the portland standoffs against ICE.

why is that?

what purpose does this serve?

I would have bet they’d ignore the order, but I had wondered if this was even a battle worth fighting for them.

With all the cops there now protecting the facility, they don’t need the fence.
Crews are starting to remove panels from the fence on Beach Street.

Chicago IG recommended that top Brandon Johnson advisor Jason Lee be fired for failure to cooperate. The mayor’s office disagreed. This stems from investigation into Bill Conway complaint that they improperly leveraged homeless camp removal for political purposes. A mess:

3. This makes me wonder if Abolish ICE will finally make a serious run in the city’s snowplow naming contest this year.

Yes, you should be surprised and horrified by secret federal police running around our city kidnapping immigrants, crashing cars, launching chemical weapons and shooting and killing people. This is a thing you should be *perpetually* shocked by. We lose when we become numb to it.
This man gets off on gaslighting the press.
"the most threatening thing I’ve seen yet was the naked bicyclers in Portland who were protesting ICE down there."

ALSO. ALSO. Needing us to find Europeans who condemned him for his actions at the time--and there are many! So many! My God so many!--is also some white supremacist bullshit, because the TAINO PEOPLE HE WAS MURDERING CERTAINLY CONDEMNED HIM FOR IT AND THEY WERE HUMAN BEINGS OF HIS TIME TOO.
Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.
