As we mourn Rob Reiner, don’t skip this: he was, pretty much, personally responsible for overturning California’s Prop 8 banning same sex marriage.

Six months after ICE apprehended 47 people, including nine kids, in Hays County, Tex., County Judge Ruben Becerra said DHS has ignored his attempts to get answers:

“We’re not told why they took them, and we’re not told where they took them. By definition, that’s a kidnapping.”

I took a picture earlier this week that I think encapsulates the isolation and danger of living in a city that doesn’t #plowthesidewalks and a neighborhood where reactionaries want to tear out an under-construction safety project on Archer Avenue.

It’s a message about priorities.

"maybe we'll all get fired!" my boss says on the Teams call with glee.

You know things are going great when staff at every level of leadership are like "please free me from this hell."

Just watched someone trying to navigate an icy intersection with a wheelchair almost get plowed into by a delivery robot that had raced across the street and almost got hit by a car in the process as the light was changing.

Yeah we all need to start carrying baseball bats

Nayra Guzmán was 15 days post C-section — going to see her baby in the NICU — when she was taken to Broadview and held in custody for about 34 hours.

She slept on a bench and barely got food. She couldn't pump.

Her story is a rare window into the growing detention of pregnant & postpartum people.
Her baby was in the NICU. She was in ICE detention.
Before Trump took office, postpartum immigrants were rarely detained by ICE. Nayra Guzmán was detained while her 15-day-old baby was in the NICU.

Every now and then I go out on my balcony to admire my perfectly shoveled sidewalk and feel morally superior. And yes I am the reason the bus stop down the way is cleared as well. 😇

The administration has taken into custody immigrants who are medically vulnerable and whose detention threatens not only their own health but also that of their newborn children — typically U.S. citizens — by depriving them of early bonding beneficial to a baby’s lifelong wellbeing.

The proposed Chicago city budget has a $5 million line item for a ShotSpotter replacement. Abandoning this failed pursuit would free up the funds needed to maintain 2025 funding levels at our city libraries, which would still leave the libraries underfunded but would avoid disastrous proposed cuts.

also curious how many that oppose the #plowthesidewalk idea were out shoveling their walkways and neighbours to prove that the city does not need to spend the money…

What if — hear me out — instead of hiring a person to only plow in front of a single business, we hired them to go down the entire block….and the next…and the next…

We could even have a small fleet to cover whole swaths of the city. #PlowTheSidewalks
But *how* will they #PlowTheSidewalks? With what technology?

My city has these for sweeping. They have also simpler variant for emptying public bins in the city. These can carry snow plows and spray saline fluid to keep the bike paths open in winter. In autumn, they operate in tandem, one sweeping the street and the other carrying a guy with a leaf blower.
