Listen, I’m always going to buy into a Tim Robinson project, but I’m *especially* into anything that dares to delve into the inherent liminal horror of Columbus, OH

good thing the city I live in is actually named after Chris Columbus, director of classic family movies like Home Alone
pedsortho.bsky.social
Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.
But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.
The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed. After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died.
While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants.
Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....

We have armed secret police kidnapping people off the street based on the color of their skin.

When we win: we will haul them before a Senate committee. The masks will come off. There will be consequences.

I'm so proud of everyone from my old neighborhood of Rogers Park in Chicago. I see what you have been and are doing. I am so proud of how organized the community is and how much more so everyone is becoming. It is inspiring. Just one example... And this is something EVERYONE can do. Everyone.

Got to attend an early screening tonight and it was DELIGHTFUL. This movie is the comforter on top of my bed tonight, keeping me warm and cozy (with only the healthiest dash of melancholy).
Letterboxd review of Rental Family. Liked + 4.5 stars.

“I think it's beautiful to be able to fight loneliness and doldrums with the found family and purpose we have the opportunity to encounter in the most unexpected and difficult places. Wear your heart on your sleeve, be kind, and if you've got any Real Characters in your life, cherish them infinitely.

Watched at the Tobias Theater at Newfields as part of opening night festivities for the Heartland International Film Festival.”

Started flight school today! A big side effect that I should probably be excited about is that I’ll be on my phone / social media far less often, so like, don’t be worried if I lowkey disappear. It’ll be worth it!

According to the City of Paris, in the last 10 years 150K trees have been planted & 45ha of parks created in the already hot city, all intended to not only improve quality-of-life today, but also help the city adapt to & manage summer heatwaves of 50℃ (122F) by 2050.

Just the start.

Common sense.

Like, I don't want to sound alarmist or anything, but to me, this is terrorism! This does not make Chicago or anywhere in the United States *more safe*. It does not make Chicago more subject to the Rule of Law. This is a van full of goons terrorizing the neighborhood.
