i can't think of a single bad thing about drugs that isn't better handled through consumer protection, manufacturing standards, environmental regulation and anti-fraud and anti-trust than criminalizing the manufacture or use of any particular chemical, qua that chemical

both "do nothing to your body & embrace traditional naturalism" & "view the body as a data collection that must be optimized in service of technology and capital" tend to reactionary views. transsexualizing the body being considered a threat by both tells you something interesting tho

The Regime's goal is to grind everyone down. Plain & simple. Our goal is to refuse this by taking turns to fight where and how we can. When one group needs to bow out, then another group needs to step in and so on. We don't all have to do everything. We can all do something though. Stay in the fight

one response to this (correct) observation is to say “well, the cops will attack you no matter how you dress and behave.” that’s right. images of cops and ICE beating grandmas and kids in inflatable frog costumes is a win for the opposition.

one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

MAGA Rage at “No Kings” Boils Over—and It Quickly Backfires on Trump
As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americans—and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.

Also the rating system is often basically “was it five stars/excellent or should a service worker get in trouble?” and I am not interested in participating in that system. We had a pretty good system before: people gave feedback when they had a very good or very bad experience.

I think businesses asking people to rate every single experience has furthered this damage. We shouldn't have this many opinions about this many things, and we certainly shouldn't expect other busy people to care if we do.
raxkingisdead.bsky.social
few ideas have damaged the average psyche more than ‘the customer is always right.’ it should be a little bit humiliating, being a customer. you should walk into any service transaction knowing that the other person, and not you, is in control over whether you get your treats

You did not lack "character" or "toughness" or intelligence. You lacked safety, support, & realistic tools.

Extending yourself grace is not about "making excuses"-- it's acknowledging reality. You're not "the exception" who "should" have been able to figure it out"on your own.

It has a frog taking shelter on a book on its head. Its holding a basket in its tentacle arms. The base is like dark waters, where, among bulrush, a sword emerge. On the handle, a kingfisher sits. A sculpture of an anthropomorphic crow with a hooded cape. Its hand is on the pommel of its sword, wich is attached at its side. On the other arm, a squirrel is climbing. Beside its feets, a cat sits. An anthropomorphic goose weraing plate armor. It' holding a shield and a mace. On the mace, red robin sits.

As someone who studied classical history as an undergraduate in the 90s, this list is excessively exciting.

What do you mean we’ve redefined our understanding of hoplite warfare?!

Maybe this is simply a difference in the expected 'rate' of knew knowledge, but this take puzzles me, because there's quite a bit of new data and studies needing to be done that I can see pretty easily in Roman history.

Knowledge creation steady and clearly visible.
A tweet by Theo Nash, which reads, "The problem is that (almost) no one, at least in the humanities, is able to produce ‘new knowledge’ at anything like the rate expected. So scholars grasp at faddish trends and voguish theories to publish books that seem exciting in the moment but have no enduring value."

It infuriates me that as human-made porn is being increasingly censored across the board, AI porn is not only allowed, but celebrated. And AI porn exists because of stolen content from non-consenting, unpaid human pornographers. It's maddening.
