I do not regret to inform you that there will also be silliness and joy during the war.

You are deluded if you believe the suffering never dance.

Please be conscious if you protest this weekend that there are feds at the protest. They look like you and they sound like you, not like Steve Buscemi in that one clip with the skateboard. Thinking you can spot them is self delusion. Nobody you haven’t met needs to know your last name.

CHICAGO

This whole thread is so important. With some exceptions, which Soren notes, it refers to several neighborhoods in the city, not suburbs.

Rogers Park is a far-north neighborhood & the others are southwest, which in Chicago translates VERY loosely to "mostly white" & "mostly not white."

Rogers Park and surrounding neighborhoods were hit hard by immigration enforcement activity over the weekend.

There's no competition here, but I want to name that the same heavy, violent, fast-moving abduction pattern has invaded the southwest side about three times a week for over a month now.

Having blackhawk helicopters constantly circling overhead when you're someone with PTSD is not great 🫠
bomtellino.bsky.social
It’s been said but it bears repeating: in addition to the people being abducted, all Chicagoans are being psychologically terrorized. Seeing feds driving/walking around and videos of violent attacks in places you know and love will fuck you up. Get ready, it’s coming to all of America soon.

The grocery store within the first hour it opens is a top-tier place to start your community-oriented week. AMA.

Also the construction site behind the store I went to this morning was looking shiny.
A mound of infill soil covered in weeds and wildflowers all covered in sunrise.

Surely you're aware this makes you an outlier.

Genuinely you should try to stop thinking of it as damage and instead think of it as normal use. It's not damage if your floors get dirty and dinged up, it's part of how they're used.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

What The Hell Is Going On, a thread:

I’ve seen some thinkpieces and posts about Portland protests that fail to understand the long-term hyperspecificity of Portland culture/humor, and frame it as a sort of shitposting meme-pilled ironic thing. Which is wrong.

So I’m gonna give you my breakdown.
annacarey.ca
I mean I think in most cases they've just been corrected, with varying amounts of patience because it does really get old when you make a gripe that your own country fully understands and the Yanks come in guns blazing to tell you you're wrong because they made an assumption with half the context.

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though." HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

The commentary in the original post was about Americans jumping in and lecturing Canadians about Thanksgiving so it's super fun how many people seem to be misreading on purpose so they can yanksplain.
annacarey.ca
We get yelled at for doing ANYTHING nice on our Thanksgiving because it's also Columbus Day in a totally different country with a totally different history. Every year.
annacarey.ca
Yeah but as a Canadian who knows intimately exactly the phenomenon they're describing I promise it was not confusing for those of us North of the border who see this nonsense every single year.
annacarey.ca
Comments made me so mad 😡
annacarey.ca
Americans, who are having Columbus Day weekend right now, are the ones conflating that with Canadian Thanksgiving, which is also this weekend. OP did not make the false connection, the Yanks did. It's because those two are the same day, not anything to do with American Thanksgiving at all.
