They didn’t just march in a circle holding up signs. They thwarted the raid by “scuffling” with police and physically blocking ICE vehicles with improvised barricades.

it's notable the OU essay thing is happening in the South because it can be seen as the next phase of where Republican anti trans stuff is going. Every red Southern state has passed basically the same policies, the next thing is to do what you can't totally legislate, which is make people go away.

Omg you all let the police beat the shit out of young Americans for protesting genocide for a whole year straight and now you're publishing and reposting articles on how the youth is not interested in politics because they didn't want to participate in your whitewashed PG shitlib protest???
Fantastic data in here. Was just talking to a neighbor about the age curve at No Kings. Not an easy thing to fix.
The Times piece by @brendannyhan.bsky.social about No Kings made me curious about the political activism of young people over time. So I pulled some CES data and made some charts. www.pbump.net/o/how-severe...

If you needed a reminder, the Democrats are not coming the save us, they are the enemy of progress, and they will collaborate with fascists and right wing political movements before they do anything to help the working class.

Wow. The darkness
“The United States made this person into a child soldier, and now is experiencing what I think is one of the most horrifically bright-line cases of imperial blowback that we’ve seen throughout the ‘war on terror.’”

If you wonder why people give you shit for following Jesse Singal, or bigging up the institutionally-transphobic The Atlantic, this one is for you.
In 2018 Jesse Singal's story about how scary it is that trans kids exist dominated the front page of the Atlantic while stories about the lethal effects of white supremacy and our lack of pandemic preparedness sat up in the corner.

If you'd like some good news on AI, the last few weeks have seen execs across multiple industries strive to hide AI usage labeling on their products because, as many of us have said FOR YEARS, the audience that *doesn't* want AI is substantial and we will reject your product whole hog for using it.

I dilike 'rights' as a framework for discussing the concepts Human Rights embody because within the discourse 'rights' are positioned as these things that the state has the right to grant or take away.

Human Rights are not that; they are elements that, when breached, justify violence to restore.
You actually don’t deserve to win an election if you are telling people they will have to give up some of their human rights to win and that they should be happy to do so.

In memory of AIDS Day, a reminder of how homophobic the NYT has always been.
An advantage of being a corporate media outlet is you can handwave away your coverage of a vulnerable minority as "checkered at best." - 36 years later

There’s a fight to be had on every front and a front to be found in every aspect of life: from the deeply personal of how we treat each other and the power that congeals in our relationships to how we do battle against massive, multiplicitous social systems of control.

Sure, they've made an environmentally catastrophic mass hallucination disinformation plagiarism Clippy that will destabilize the world, but also their other goal is to replace human workers entirely and let us humans starve. A boycott of AI is the most important boycott of your entire life.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?
