Going off the signs I saw at the last No Kings protest, Democratic base voters who probably would have toed the 2010s party line of "a better path to legal immigration" are now saying "we know they're undocumented, they belong here, don't touch them." There's a difference.

Even though immigration is a huge turnout issue for far-right parties globally, I have to wonder if here in the US the right has fucked up by forcing a lot of middle Americans who didn't want to think about it to pick a side between people they see every day and masked police squads

One thing about the Triangle in NC (that I bet is true elsewhere; curious to know where else) is there are several blue cities / towns basically right next to each other. To assess the full area turnout you have to know there were separate rallies in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, and Pittsboro

I didn't realize how quickly memes appear and mutate on TikTok. In order to get all the jokes you need to have seen every step of the mutation. So it actually reflects a prestige hierarchy of who watches the most TikTok. It's their current events except it's literally nonsense.

IIRC the university is actually pretty desperate for more athletic revenue because the GA keeps cutting funding. Add a bunch of bad decision-makers at the top who think they're brilliant businessmen and I think the clown show is just getting rolling

My friend Dan (mentioned in the article) was the agent for that book. I'm not sure it ever even came out. The Segway could have been a lot more successful but some bad luck plus Kamen's eccentricities deflated the hype within a year or two.

Protect your digital space.

Be aware that the DHS account in particular is known to quote dunk on regular people to encourage their followers to harass them.

The detach quote function will come in very handy here…

You gotta just block these accounts without interacting. They're doing this the night before No Kings so they can selectively grab quote posts and replies about how nasty people are being. It's extremely transparent. Just block and move on.

Yes, it does look like the government accounts joining Bluesky are real, including Homeland Security and the White House. They're tweeting about it on X.
