📌I'm Amabel (she/her), a board game designer. Out of my 80+ games, I'm best known for City of Six Moons and Irish Gauge.

I co-own the publisher Hollandspiele. In my spare time I make video essays about the future & history of games.

I'm a slutty poly trans woman, and I talk about all of the above.
It's me, wearing a black t-shirt with "more teeth" in red lettering encircled by a heart.

do not listen to pundits, even trans pundits, who have given up in their hearts on the dream of liberation, who have preemptively sold out in hopes of becoming part of a world which is already dead and rotting

Transness is not bourgeois. This is a wedge idea dreamed up by some gleefully amoral think tank lobotomite to split trans people and make us fight each other. That we relay on modern medicine doesn't make us any more bourgeois than someone who needs antidepressants or cleft palate repair.

There are a lot of Onion/Clickhole articles that have become meme-ified to the point that they serve as short-hand responses to posts - "Worst Guy You Know Makes Great Point," "No way to stop this says only place it happens," etc, but I feel like this is an underutilized one.
Researchers No Closer To Understanding What The Fuck You’re Talking About

Important to note that this isn’t a problem for the billionaire buying media properties. If they make them into successful rightwing propaganda? Cool more money. If it fails? Cool they’ve destroyed one of the few outlets with the resources to investigate them. Either way they achieved their goal

This is crazy to me, because I did see this in high school--as part of a Cinema and History elective where the film was explicitly presented as racist. (I learned so much from that class...)

I would really love it personally if otherwise talented and knowledgeable film people stopped spreading the film's PR campaign as fact

the "it's an innovative milestone" lie which Movies Silently debunked here was used as late as 1999 so that one of my conservative high school teachers could spend an entire week showing the film and "contextualizing" it (i.e., subtly presenting its racist beliefs as secret facts)

They often defend Griffith's place of respect by claiming some important firsts for him: First film shot in California, first closeup, first editing for suspense (cross-cutting)

Yeah, he did none of these things and I have the receipts.

"But if he didn't do all these things, why does he get credit?"

Well, two words: Elon Musk.

But seriously, Griffith himself took out a whole double page ad spread to claim he invented everything.

DW Griffith directed BIRTH OF A NATION (1915), a virulently racist film (and neither his first nor his last one of those) that saw racist violence follow wherever it was screened.

So, naturally, there are film bros and gals who think we should "ignore the racism" and keep it in the canon.

oh gosh, I adore sushi (might be my favorite thing to eat), Magnolia is such an important and moving film to me, and Green Day was the first concert I ever attended lol

People are very different and that's so beautiful.

Love this so much! So many educational games completely ignore the way board games can create meaning... and how this potential can be used to achieve powerful learning outcomes.

Here's another one for free: most writers are as bigoted and incurious when they come up with their characters as your average network TV casting agent.

The thing that bothers me about "Cozy horror" outside of any taxonomy and on a personal level is that I honestly find a lot of comfort in horror as is, even with some of the more extreme subgenres. There's something reassuring and cathartic about acknowledging darker themes, if that makes sense? 🎃
