With guys like this you have to remember that it's not like if we start hanging people and things don't get better he'll admit he was wrong. He'll have gotten what he wanted: the hangings are an end in themselves, not a means.

It's great how at the end of Robocop when the old man says "nice shooting, son" it's in response to Robo lighting a guy up with a machine pistol from across a boardroom table. Not exactly picking the wings off a fly from a hundred paces there.

True but--not arguing with this post, just saying--if they were still focused on anti-terrorism they'd still be arresting grandmothers because it's easy and makes numbers go up and they don't give a shit about anything else. Only the charges would change.
With DC shooter now identified as an Afghan national not the antifa secret agent White House hoped for a good time to remember the Trump admin has gutted domestic anti-terrorism capacity and reassigned many to finding grandmothers to arrest at immigration hearings.

Last time I flew back to see family it was walking out of the airport and seeing billboards like this that made it really feel real.

Any "live-action" attempt at Akira is doomed to fall flat because the CGI they'll have to use won't look as good as the original animation. But--and I know I'm in the minority here--I think they actually have a chance if they make one important decision: all practical, no CGI.
